Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the type of game that was hoping to break boundaries and new ground. Being the first stealth-based AC game in quite some time, players were seemingly excited to get back to basics and tread throughout the lands of Baghdad eliminating foes from the shadows. However, I don’t think even Ubisoft was prepared to see how quickly players were going to acclimate to the shadows once again, with sales numbers exceeding expectations.
Players, myself included, were beyond excited to see Assassin’s Creed dump the Action-RPG formula, even if it’s just for a little while. An adventure that puts you back into the shoes of the characters that the series is named after? Sign me up. It seems that fans of the original series are coming out of the woodwork, according to a recent Tweet by the official Assassin’s Creed X (formerly known as Twitter) account, stating;
“With the number of players being in like with past successful launches such as Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we are humbled by the positive reception. We are proud to also share that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the biggest New Gen launch in terms of unit sales to date at Ubisoft (PS5, Xbox Series X-S)”
Countless fans also offered praise and support for the team at Ubisoft Bordeaux for their efforts in bringing Baghdad to life in this recent entry. From the sights and sounds to the attention to detail in the world surrounding the player, this version of the world has been fully fleshed out and realized, and fans have taken notice.
I hadn’t been involved with the Assassin’s Creed series for many years myself, but Mirage brought the franchise back into the spotlight for me. Creeping over rooftops, eliminating enemies from the shadows… that’s what being an Assassin is all about. I know I’m not the only one hoping for more games in the same vein as this, with a bigger budget and more direction to push the stealth-based portions back into the main series once more.
