Apex Legends continues to grow in popularity, having pulled in over 50 million players since its launch back in February. Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella addressed the latest milestone on Twitter, while also teasing the fact that there’s “much more to come!”
Thank you to the 50 million players that have shown up in the first month since Apex Legends launched! You have all made this something special and there's much more to come! pic.twitter.com/EoDcjF5q9E— Vince Zampella (@VinceZampella) March 4, 2019
As for what players can expect in Apex Legends moving forward, the first Battle Pass is scheduled to drop sometime later this month. While no details have been released regarding the contents of the Season 1 Battle Pass, it’s rumored that a new Legend or two will be released.
However, it’s important to note that players won’t have to purchase the Battle Pass in order to get these new Legends. Instead, Legends will likely follow the same format that currently exists in the game, where new Legends are available in exchange for Legend Tokens.
“The Battle Pass is a seasonal system that rewards players with exclusive cosmetic items. These rewards are a mix of exclusive seasonal cosmetics and Apex Packs. Every player can unlock some of these items each season through normal play; those who choose to purchase the Battle Pass can earn everything available that season, around 100 different rewards.”
It goes on to explain that, “Legends will not be included in the Battle Pass.” While they’re not included, the content roadmap for Apex Legends does note that new Legends and weapons will be introduced alongside each Battle Pass, with Battle Pass seasons running for approximately three months.
March will see the launch of the first Battle Pass, with Season 2 slated for a release in June. There will be four total Battle Pass seasons in 2019, ending with Season 4 in December. Until more Battle Pass information is released, the one takeaway for March is that Apex Legends officially managed to hit 50 million players in less than a month. Not only is this impressive, the milestone further cements Apex Legends as one of the most successful battle royale games to date.
Apex Legends is free-to-play on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Origin.
