We’ve been told Darksiders 2 will look “at least as good as” the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions but Aliens: Colonial Marines dev has been gone and done one up on that by claiming the Wii U version of the highly-anticipated Aliens continuation will be the best edition.
Brian Burleson, ACM’s senior producer, chimed in saying the Wii U is a “powerful, powerful machine”.
Devs and publishers working on the Wii U are under strict instruction not to divulge any specific technical info, with information being saved till the big reveal at this year’s E3.
It’s been reported that Nintendo’s next console is “not as capable” as the PS3 and Xbox 360 and it’s true that Nintendo has itself issued a statement that their focus while building the console has been on gameplay rather than graphics.
Vague hints of graphical prowess seem to be okay though, with Burleson expressing more than a little confidence in the Wii U ACM visuals.
“[Creating the Wii U version] has been pretty easy,” he said. “The Wii U is a powerful, powerful machine and it can do a lot of cool new things. And so the game itself, moving it over to work on the Wii U was not much of a chore.
“Now the interesting thing is finding out all the cool ways you can use the controller to do new stuff with it. You can imagine all the cool things we can do, with this franchise and having a thing with you, right?”
Remember the tracking device used in Aliens? You know the controller with the screen for the Wii U? Yeah, you guessed it. Apparently the revolutionary controller will be used in other ways but we’re not allowed to know about them as of yet.
“You can imagine some cool features, for sure,” Burleson hinted. “It’s not hard to imagine some cool features.”
The Wii U’s power, though, is “one thing I can’t talk about”, he added. “Actually nailing the specs, they haven’t come out with them yet.”
The Wii U edition will definitely be better than its PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts though due to “more modern tech”.
In what way will it be better? “You’ll have to wait and see,” Burleson, the big tease, said, “Just trust me on that one.”
E3’s only next month now, and with it will come a whole host of Wii U announcements from Nintendo on hardware and third-party devs on software. Make sure to check back for all the latest from inside the show when the time comes.
