Achievement Hunter: DMC: Devil May Cry (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)

Now that Capcom and Ninja Theory's amazing reboot has arrived, we give you the skinny on how to unlock all the Achievements and Trophies within it.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Welcome back to another edition of the Achievement Hunter, where we help you in unlocking more points for your GamerScore, or additions to your virtual Trophy collection.  This week, we’re tackling DMC: Devil May Cry, Ninja Theory’s effective (and thrilling) reboot of Capcom’s long-running franchise.  Despite the appearance of a younger Dante and a shorter-than-expected campaign, this game comes packing a meaty challenge, especially for some of the higher-up achievements.

Now, proceed reading this with caution, as there is some slight spoiler fare in terms of unlockable rewards within the game.  But this guide helps point out some of the easier – and not-so-easy – rewards awaiting you during your play-through.

Starting With the Basics

Right off the bat, you’ll unlock a few goodies as you progress through the first half hour of the game.  Upon receiving an upgrade point (and spending it in the shop), you’ll earn 10 points for the “Time to go to work guys!” award.  From there, other Achievements include acquiring the Osiris and Arbiter weapons (“Thing drives me crazy” and “It’s got to stay in the family”, 10 points each), and acquiring the Angel Boost, Devil Trigger and Eryx capabilities (“Only kind of gift worth giving” for 10 points, “You are not a human, are you?” for 10 points, and “This baby sure can pack a punch” for 20).  Other weapons also open up new points in the game, including grabbing Aquila (“No talking!”, 20 points), the Revenant (“More than just a few sparks”, 10 points) and the aptly named Kablooey (“You’re not going to shoot me”, 10 points).

Running Through the Enemies

If there’s one thing you’ll earn points for throughout DMC: Devil May Cry, it’s taking down enemies.  Right off the bat, the first stage offers two nasty things to bring down, including the Hunter (“Come on Puppy.  Let’s go!”, 20 points) and the Tyrant (“Flock off, feather-face!”, 20 points).  Other enemies pop up over the course of the game as well, including Mundus’ spawn (“Whatever, Lady”, 20 points), Mundus itself (“Cleaning up his Dad’s mess”, 20 points) and even Vergil (“The end?  Don’t bet on it,” 40 points).

Little Level Goals

Several of DMC: Devil May Cry’s Achievements come from meeting certain accomplishments through levels, and the following require a great deal of perseverance in order to get through them.

“He’s a demon too”- You helped Phineas by retrieving his eye, 10 points

“It’s time to finish this”- You helped Vergil open the vault, 10 points.

“Looks like it’s your lucky day”- You completed a level without taking any damage, 10 points

“Every hero has a weakness”- You completed Furnace of Souls without taking damage from the furnace, 10 points

“It’s only the rain”- You killed 10 enemies by pushing them into the Hurricane ride, 10 points

“A man with guts and honor”- You reached the end of the descent on Mission 6 having killed all of the enemies, 10 points

“Now my coat’s all charred”- You navigated the Sky Bridge without hitting any lasers, 10 points

“Where does the time go?”- You completed a level in two minutes or less, 10 points (this one’s a true test, best stick with earlier levels)

Killing Time

The following rewards come from taking out a bunch of enemies…not that you have to do them all in a row, thankfully.

“For Tony Redgrave”- You killed 50 enemies using nothing but firearms, 10 points

“In the name of my father”- You killed 100 enemies using nothing but Demon weapons, 10 points

“You’ll never have her fire”- You killed 100 enemies using nothing but Angel weapons, 10 points

“Impressive”- You slay 100 demons, 10 points

“Bring it on!”- You slay 1,000 demons, 20 points

“Looks like we have a winner”- You slay 5,000 demons, 40 points.

And, for good measure, if you get a lot of killing done in a chain (if any at all), you’ll earn an SSS Style Rank and unlock “Sensational!” for 10 points.  Earn a similar rank at the end of the level and you’ll earn a “Stylish!” award for 10 additional points.

Hey, Big Spender

Sometimes Achievements come from spending a lot in the shop and maximizing your character.  These awards include the following…

“This is my kind of rain”- 10,000 Red Orbs spent, 10 points

“Absolutely crazy about it”- 50,000 Red Orbs spent, 20 points

“Let’s rock, baby!”- Dante’s health is upgraded to maximum, 10 points

“You can’t handle it”- Dante’s Devil Trigger is upgraded to maximum, 10 points

“Power…give me more power!”- all Dante’s combat upgrades are purchased, 20 points

Completionist

For these awards, you’ll need to do pretty much everything that you can with specific tasks.  For instance, if you find 10 Secret Missions, you’ll earn “This party’s just getting crazy!” for 20 points, and if you uncover them all, “One hell of a party!” will be awarded, for 50 points.

Other completion unlocks include…

“Dude, the show’s over!”- finding all 21 keys, 10 points

“And you are set free”- finding half of the Lost Souls, 10 points

“Fill your dark soul with light”- finding all of the Lost Souls, 20 points

“Keeps getting better and better”- earning 100 percent completion on all levels, 40 points

Finish It Off

Finally, if you want to unlock the “big boys” in the Achievement/Trophy ranks, you’ll have to finish your game on various difficulty settings.  Starting it off is Heaven Or Hell difficulty “This is what I live for!”, 10 points), followed by Son of Sparda (“Too easy!”, 40 points), Dante Must Die (a tough one, “Devils never cry”, 100 points), and finally, if you can survive that long, Hell and Hell difficulty (where you have a one-hit life and the enemies are incredibly tough – “And welcome to Hell!”, 100 points).  Finally, if you really feel like going complete with the game, you can try to complete all missions on the Nephillim difficulty with a SSS rank (“Jackpot!”, 80 points).

DMC: Devil May Cry is a tough game on higher settings, one that’ll really make you work for every reward that’s out there.  But it’s certainly worth it, especially if you’re a lover of action games.  This is easily the best in the series to date, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

DMC: Devil May Cry is available now for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and coming later this month to PC.
