Is LEGO Fortnite split-screen co-op?

Does LEGO Fortnite support local co-op? Find out in this article.

I’m a big fan of LEGO games; some of my fondest gaming memories are playing split-screen couch co-op LEGO Indiana Jones 2, LEGO Lord of the Rings, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes with my brother. Will we be able to play LEGO Fortnite split-screen co-op?

Does LEGO Fortnite have a couch co-op split-screen?

The cool thing about Fortnite is that it already supports split-screen co-op. You can only play two-player Fortnite split-screen, can only play Battle Royale Duos, Trios, or Squads, and can only play split-screen on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. That said, since Fortnite already supports split-screen couch co-op, I’d imagine LEGO Fortnite should have couch co-op split-screen, too.

In a blog posted by Epic Games, they announced that “split-screen is currently not available in LEGO Fortnite.” To me, this means that they are working toward implementing couch co-op into the game, but it’s extremely sad that LEGO Fortnite doesn’t have split-screen at launch.

If you go to the LEGO Fortnite main page and scroll to the bottom, you’ll see a list of FAQs. All of the FAQ answers are vague and point to more being revealed on December 7 when the game officially launches and you can play it for yourself. December 7 has come and gone and the FAQ page here is still vague. However, the answer to the “Is LEGO Fortnite multiplayer” question is, “Although all will be revealed on December 7 when the game is launched, we’d say this would be a pretty good guess…”

Though the answer is most obviously referring to playing LEGO Fortnite online with your friends, I’d imagine LEGO Fortnite will also support a two-player split-screen in the near future. While I was hopeful and excited to live out my childhood dreams again by playing LEGO Fortnite couch co-op, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for it.

Considering Fortnite already supports split-screen (on select devices, remember that) and all previous LEGO games since the very beginning support couch co-op split-screen, I think Epic Games would be wise to include split-screen in LEGO Fortnite, which should happen, we’ll just have to wait. This new game isn’t a Battle Royale, it’s a survival crafting game similar to Minecraft. We’ll likely be able to build bases, battle enemies, and go on quests. I can’t wait!
