Uncharted 4 – Chapter 19: Avery’s Descent

Learn how to navigate the floor panel death puzzles as you make your way through another chapter.

This article covers Chapter 19: Avery’s Descent in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The most recent chapters in the game have dealt more with action than puzzle-solving, but that changes here as you’ll have to complete the deathtrap floor panel puzzle if you want to get through this chapter. Start things off by opening the gate and moving through the dark corridor. Continue to follow the footprints as you move down the hallway and around the corner.

When you reach the room with wooden floor panels and spike underneath, pay close attention and follow the muddy footprints to safely cross the panels and get the far side of the room. Keep following the footprints until you reach an opening that’s been blocked. You can move the debris blocking the opening, but it won’t be enough to make it through.

Pick up the torch when your flashlight dies, and continue to search through the area. Move over to the pillar in the middle of the room and help Elena get to the floor above before climbing up yourself. Crawl through the narrow corridor and down the hole, then follow the next corridor to encounter a quick time event trap. Watch out for the dead bodies as they will explode, then jump over the bricks and run for your life to avoid the explosion.

When you reach the end of the tunnel, slide through the hole in the right wall and climb up the ledges to the right to reach the next room. Drop down and head into the tunnel on the left until the mummies block your path. When this happens head into the opening on the right and into the water below. Continue forward as you mindfully set off the mummies in the corridor, backing away to avoid each blast.

There are more traps in the corridor ahead so keep an eye out. When you slide down to the next room, keep right to avoid the explosive bodies at the bottom, then examine the mummy to the right before sliding into the next runnel behind it to find treasure. Climb back out and continue through the tunnel on the right as you follow more footprints through the corridor.

Be ready for battle as hostile forces await in the water ahead. Take down the enemies and move through the corridor as you finish off a few more hostiles that will attack. Drop down through the hole in the floor and make your way upstairs to open the gate on the far side of the room. Collect the key and read the note nearby, then look on the other side of the note and examine the symbols on the back for clues you’ll use a bit later.

There are more explosive traps located in the next room so be careful as you move through it. Continue through the corridor ahead and be mindful of more explosives when you drop down at the end. Move through the next hole and take a closer look at the figure in the middle of the room. The tunnel to the right leads you to another floor panel trap, but you won’t have footprints to guide you. Instead, you’ll need to look at the tiles between the panels on the floor and use the clues on the note to figure out which ones are safe to step on.

The panels with skulls on them should be avoided at all costs, but start the puzzle by moving toward the skull on the left. Use the note to make it to the far side, then open the gate and swing to the right once you get strung up. Grab the knife and cut the rope, then quickly move through the corridor in order to avoid the explosion that follows. This completes the chapter, but you can move on to No Escape or head back to our Uncharted 4 walkthrough and guide.
