Creating the perfect character is the first challenge that you’ll face in Tyranny, with its multitude of options and various story outcomes. Read on to learn everything you need to know about creating a character in Tyranny.
How to Create a Character in Tyranny
To create a new character in Tyranny, simply select New Game from the Main Menu. Once the character creation screen loads, you will be able to design your character.
Appearance
The first section relates to your character’s physical appearance, be it male or female, hair style, tattoos, and more.
The first part involves choosing Skin color, Body Type, and Gender. When you are happy with the basic framework of your character, press Next to continue.
The next tab still affects your appearance, but to a finer detail. You can change things like your Face and Hair, Hair color, the style of Voice, Tattoos with a primary and secondary color, along with a Portrait for your character.
History
The next section involves your character’s History and Expertise. These are related to how your character joined Kyros’ army and what skills they know.
In the third tab you will be able to select your character’s History. You will be faced with an option of how you originally joined Kyros’ army. These options change the dialogue responses you are able to give during interactions.
The fourth tab in Tyranny’s character creation allows you to choose your Primary Expertise. This expertise is useful for the beginning of the game and can be altered later on. You are able to learn any skills while playing Tyranny, so don’t feel like you’re stuck along one path. The following skills are available:
- Spear and Shield
- Javelin
- War Mace
- Dual-Wielding
- Shortbow
- Unarmed Attacks
- Shock Spells
- Frost Spells
- Vigor Spells
- Atrophy Spells
The fifth tab allows you to choose your Secondary Expertise. These skills, while important during the first several hours of gameplay, can be changed later on through the acquisition of other skills. Depending what you chose for your Primary Expertise, the available Secondary Expertise skills may vary.
Banner
This section allows you to customize your character’s banner and character colors. What you choose here holds no weight on the game or decisions and is simply for style.
Name
The Name tab is arguably the most difficult part in the character creation process of Tyranny. Take the time to think of something good (or terrible!) as it will be with you the rest of the game.
Attributes
Your character’s Attributes are the real meat of any RPG and are just as important in Tyranny. Your Attributes affect how your character performs, both in combat and in conversation. Take note of the small pointers next to the Attributes, as these indicate the attributes that directly affect your Primary and Secondary Expertise. If you want your abilities to be more powerful, consider levelling these over others. The following Attributes are as follows:
- Might
- Finesse
- Quickness
- Vitality
- Wits
- Resolve
The tooltip on the right of the screen will inform you what each Attribute does. For example, Quickness determines how often you can use abilities (like spells) during combat. The higher your Quickness the better the cooldown durations.
Skills
The Skills section of the character creation screen in Tyranny offers precise and detailed increases of specific skills. It is where you will be able to increase your effectiveness with Weapons and Support Skills. Weapon Skills relate to your Primary and Secondary Expertise, while Support Skills relate to movement and charisma.
If a Skill relates to your Primary or Secondary Expertise, it will be highlighted in a similar fashion to the previous menu. This is also where Magic Skills will appear if you opted for a magic-using character. The following skills are available:
Weapon Skills
- Magic Staff
- Thrown Weapons
- Two-Handed Weapons
- Bows
- Dual Wield
- One-Handed Weapons
- Unarmed Combat
Support Skills
- Athletics
- Dodge
- Lore
- Parry
- Subterfuge
Conquest
After finalizing your Skills, you will now be faced with your final character creation challenge in Tyranny: answering the Conquest choices. By choosing Conquest, you will be able to make choices as to how your character acted during Kyros’ conquest of the Tiers. Your answers will have a direct effect on the world you will experience in Tyranny.
However, if you wish to just get into the game, you can choose Quick Start, and all the choices will be made for you. It’s a good idea to choose Conquest on your first play through, as your decisions will mean more as you venture into the world.
After making your character, selecting their skills and deciding how you acted during the Conquest, you will begin the Prologue, where you step into the shoes of your soldier and attempt to finish Kyros’ work. If you read this guide, you will know how to create your character in Tyranny.
