Star Wars fans were introduced to a new hero when Respawn revealed the first ever trailer for their upcoming Jedi: Fallen Order game. Players will be assuming the role of Cal Kestis, a hopeful survivor of Order 66, in a new tale set in a galaxy far, far away. Fans of Gotham’s Cameron Monaghan also got to see a new side of the actor when he took center stage during the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago to talk a little more about his latest role.
“He immediately jumped off of the page,” recalled Monaghan when opening up a bit about his Fallen Order character. “He felt really distinct. He has this grit to him, he’s street-smart and weary, but at the same time – there’s this optimism to him”
Respawn CEO Vince Zampella also mentioned that his story is incredibly intricate, a story that the reveal trailer only barely covers. Zampella also teased a much more interesting tale regarding Cal’s (or not Cal’s?) lightsaber, though he couldn’t reveal too much because it’s “so intimately tied to the story, it’s filled with spoilers.”
Luckily, the team promised even more reveals in May. With E3 following up in June, it looks like this Summer is going to be perfect for Star Wars fans that can’t wait for the newest adventure dropping this November.
In case you missed our previous coverage about the new game, it was confirmed once more that this is a single-player, story-rich game, one in which is set after the events of Order 66 and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Cal himself is a young Padawan that has survived a string of tragic events, forced to be on the run as he learns what it means to be a Jedi.
The combat also looks incredibly fluid. Respawn called it “thoughtful combat,” meaning that fighting in-game will be much more than hack-n-go. Instead, players will be tasked with “mastering” certain skills, analysing the world around them, and adapting to evolving challenges. The introduction of the new Inquisitor was also interesting, especially for those that closely followed the Clone Wars series.
“There’s so much more, [this] was just a fraction,” promised the Respawn team. For now, Star Wars fans at least have a set release date set for November 15 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
