One of the most important items in Pokemon Go is the Poke Ball that you use to catch various Pokemon. As you play through the game you can acquire upgraded versions of the Poke Ball, such as Great Balls, Master Balls and Ultra Balls. All of these items are extremely important. This short guide covers how to find these items and when you should be using them.

This time around we’re focusing exclusively on Poke Balls, which you can find at PokeStops. PokeStops replenish supplies every five minutes, so if you need more Poke Balls and don’t want to spend your hard-earned cash to buy PokeCoins, just check back every five minutes to nearby PokeStops to stock up.
Poke Balls are the most basic version used to catch Pokemon when you first start as a Trainer. Any low CP Pokemon you can catch with a normal Poke Ball. However, for higher CP Pokemon that you’ll find as your Trainer level increases, you need to use better Poke Balls. While it’s possible to catch higher CP Pokemon with a normal Poke Ball, it’s very rare that you’ll be successful.
As your Pokemon Trainer levels up you gain access to better Poke Balls. At level 12 you can pick up Great Balls at PokeStops. You should use these for high CP Pokemon until you reach level 20 and can purchase Ultra Balls. As you increase in level, the upgrade Balls can be a little harder to come by compared to normal Poke Balls, so don’t waste them on Pokemon you can just as easily catch with a normal Poke Ball.
When you reach level 30 you can get Master Balls, which are the most powerful Poke Balls in Pokemon Go. Whenever you find a super rare and powerful Pokemon, you’ll want to use a Master Ball to catch them. Save Master Balls for only the rarest of Pokemon because you won’t be able to come across these as often as the other Ball types.
No matter which Poke Ball you’re using, you should always use a Razz Berry to make it easier to catch your Pokemon target. A Razz Berry doesn’t guarantee you can catch the Pokemon you desire, but it will increase your chances. As always, stay tuned to Prima Games for more coverage on Pokemon Go!
