This guide will help you earn an S Rank score in the story mission [Extreme] Cloaked in Silence in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and includes a list of the mandatory and optional objectives available for this mission. Keep in mind that it is not necessary to complete all the objectives to earn an S Rank. All you need is an accumulated score of 130,000 or more, and earning a high time bonus will greatly increase your chances of achieving an S Rank for the mission.
Objectives
- Eliminate Quiet (Mandatory).
- Determine what to do with Quiet (Optional).
- Neutralize Quiet without hitting her with lethal weapons (Optional).
- Neutralize Quiet with non-firearm attacks (Optional).
Walkthrough
This mission is meant to be a more difficult version of the earlier mission Cloaked in Silence where you met Quiet. She will have more health, so the supply drop trick won’t work this time. You are also going to be much more susceptible to damage, meaning that her sniper can kill you instantly.
Before the mission begins, equip a tank at the prep screen and have it spawn in with you. This will give you a much better chance at facing Quiet. However, the tricky part is getting into the tank once the mission starts, as Quiet is very quick on the trigger and can kill you easily.
At the start of the mission, stay behind cover and peek your head out to get Quiet to spot you briefly. Make a quick dash for the tank and get inside. This may take a couple tries, but you will eventually make your way into the tank.
Once inside the tank, you can mostly just stay in the starting area to shoot at Quiet from here, as this gives you a decent vantage point over all her sniper posts. Only relocate if she takes up position in a spot that doesn’t give you a good line of sight on her.
Locate Quiet from the small flashes of light where the sun reflects off her rifle scope. She will also kick up dust in the distance as she changes locations. Use the tank to shoot at her as quickly as possible, and try to anticipate her movements. Keep in mind that as Quiet continues to shoot at you, she can eventually destroy your tank.
Continue to shoot at Quiet from inside your tank until she eventually falters. This can take some time, so just be patient and keep picking away at her health. Once you have eliminated Quiet, hop out of the tank and sprint over to her location like you did in the previous mission.
When you reach her location, choose what to do with her either by finishing her off with a weapon or allow her to live. If you choose to eliminate her, simply exfiltrate the hot zone afterwards to conclude the mission.
If you completed the mission fairly quickly and with the No Reflex and No Enemy Combat Alerts bonuses, then these should put you just over the 130,000 points required to earn an S Rank score.
