Assassin’s Creed Unity – Mistakes New Players Make

Don't make the same mistakes we did, avoid this common errors made by new players.

Assassin’s Creed Unity has a fun factor that is through the roof, but that doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a forgiving game. In fact, some of the assassination missions will send you all the way back to the starting point if you mess up, and therefore mistakes must be kept to a minimum. Sure, these are things you’ll learn from trial and error, but why go through the same struggles that we did when you can just learn from our mistakes?

They have Leeroy Jenkins Syndrome

If you haven’t watched the video of Leeroy Jenkins, stop what you’re doing and go watch it, otherwise this will make absolutely no sense. We’ll wait…

Now that we’re all on the same page, don’t do what Leeroy did. Don’t go running into the battle thinking you are going to teach your foes a lesson. You’re not. They’re going to send you back to your assassin’s lair with a sore butt. Instead, spend a few short moments observing your enemies and surroundings before you move in. Study the patrols, points of entry, and opportunities to exploit vulnerabilities. We think you’ll find this pays off. If you’re still having trouble after several attempts, chug your Mountain Dew and ask yourself a very important question; What would Leeroy do?

They don’t loot dead bodies

Sure, the pocket change that you pick up from each dead foe isn’t really going to help you retire years ahead of schedule, but it does add up. That’s not really the point of stopping to loot their bodies, however. The main reason you’re going to steal all the dead guy’s stuff is because every now and then they will give you Health, Phantom Blades, Berserker Blades, Smoke Bombs, and every other type of consumable you’ll need. This will save you lots of cash since you won’t have to buy it before you set out to murder your next target.

They don’t synchronize their maps

You know all those eagle icons that are spread out all over your map, and how lots of the areas are sort of blurred out? Those eagles represent points that Arno can synchronize with, opening up the map and displaying objects and items of interest. These points are usually found in very high places, and once complete you will be able to see things like Chests and other collectibles, as well as Fast Travel to that district any time you want. If you’ve ever had to parkour your way across Paris, you’ll appreciate the function of Fast Travel.

They don’t pay attention to their HUD

The HUD, or heads up display, is basically all the on-screen indicators that help you keep tabs on what is happening with Arno and his surroundings. Not only will it display his current weapon and consumables, but also how much health he has, as well as items or objectives of interest on the map. Make sure to spend a few moments studying this before you charge blindly into a bad situation. Are there any optional objectives you can complete, or opportunities you can exploit? Knowledge is power, especially in the hands of a lethal assassin.

They don’t purchase the right skills and upgrades

Play style does matter when you’re deciding what upgrades, consumables or skills to buy, but there are some that we wish we had focused on from the start. Things like Disguise, a stealth skill that lets you assume the identity of a non playable character and sneak past some guards, or the Double Air Assassination that allows you to simultaneously take out two foes from high above. The list goes on, but those are definitely two that you should try to pick up as quickly as possible, especially the Disguise option. Buy it, then take time to learn how to use it. You won’t regret it.
