Xbox Series X box art undergoes another wave of changes following branding backlash. When the box art for next-gen first emerged, the reaction was immediate: memes were made, jokes were had, and confusion all around was loud regarding why a small cover should house so many reminders that this game is on the Xbox Series X. One sticker too many do not make a good campaign, evidently, and Micorosft has adjusted accordingly.
Back in July, Dirt 5 cover art was shown with three separate branding for the Xbox Series X, including a massive sticker that overshadowed the ESRB label. It was a bit much, but it looks like the team listened and another wave of cover art has been revealed (courtesy of Niko analyst Daniel Ahmad):

Is the marketing push a huge deal? No, not really, but it is nice to see that the team is taking feedback to heart and is willing to make even small changes when those changes make sense. With it now being August and the holiday season looms nearer and nearer, we still don’t have a release date for the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5, nor do we even have a price point. Both parties are holding that info close to the chest, but the reveal has to happen sooner or later.
It’s interesting to see this new generation evolve with its marketing. For the first time in a long time, the Microsoft and Sony camps couldn’t be farther apart in their outreach objectives. Sony is going hard on console-exclusive locks whereas Xbox seems to be doing a solid job at broadening their horizons. Despite studio acquisitions, Team Green is focused less on exclusivity and more on expanding the player experience, even if that means sticking to PC and Steam.

With the Xbox Game Pass and Sony’s continued dedication to their own pool of experiences, it will be intriguing to see how the generations gap will continue to evolve and what that means for gamers and the industry as a whole.
