Prima | End of the Week Recap #41

Catch up on everything you may have missed from Prima Games during the week of August 2 through August 6.

Morgan was taking some much needed time off this week (it’s my turn next week, let’s goooo), so I’m attempting to fill their shoes on this first Friday of August 2021. A whole lot has happened this week, and Jesse and I wrote a buttload of words. If you’re new here, welcome! Every Friday we drop an End of the Week Recap so Prima Games readers can catch up if they need an easy way to do that.

If you want easy access to all the news, features, reviews and nonsense we publish every week, then the End of the Week Recaps will let you do that without having to scroll through everything. We also like to run Staff Chat, a section for the writers to inject some personality into this bad boy with a little opinion juice. You get to know us a little better every week. Bonus!

And hey, if you do like us and our faces, you can check us out nearly every Friday on the official Prima Games Twitch channel. We run an hour-long talk show from 5:30 PM ET to 6:30 PM ET, closing out the week with some casual chat about games. Hop over to twitch.tv/primagames to tune in.

Alright, the hard part’s over. Now it’s time for the good stuff. Check out the lists below for all the content posted on Prima Games during the week of August 2 through August 6!

Weekend writer Josh Nichols gave us lists of their essential Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox (PC, mobile) games. If you could add one to each list, what would they be?

For Nintendo Switch Online, I think it’s important to highlight some of the weird games that aren’t the usual Nintendo regulars everyone complains about not having a way to buy for the nth time. Seeing games like TwinBee, Super Dodgeball and weird Natsume games like Spanky’s Quest is awesome. I’d put Pop’n TwinBee on the Nintendo list, and for Xbox it’s easy enough to recommend Dragon Quest XI. It has custom touch controls for mobile, and your save data carries across console, that and PC. No brainer.

Any news this week that gave you some of that sweet, sweet dopamine?

I’m super stoked about Sol Cresta; I haven’t played the older ones but the passion emnating from that game is intense.

First Final Fantasy, now Fortnite. Which gaming series should Ariana Grande appear in next?

I think it would be best if we saw Ariana Grande travelling through genres as much as franchises. With that in mind, she’s a perfect candidate for a Tekken appearance.

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Jesse on Mario Golf took me into a world I’ll never visit myself. So reading about New Donk City in this new realm was fun.

Any specific gaming plans for the weekend?

I want to see if I get can through Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, so I can move on to Final Fantasy II. It’s gonna be a tough one!

Any non-gaming recommendations? Shows, Movies, and so on?

I’ve been watching the Great British Bake Off with my family. Despite not rally caring about the concept, it’s a pretty dramatic show.

Bonus Question. What’s the wierdest thing you’ve seen or done relative to your career in games?

On the way to my first E3, my shuttle ended up behind an Ubisoft truck of some sort that had a huge LED panel on the back, forcing me to stare at massive, digitized rabbids in traffic. It isn’t that weird in retrospect but it was the first videogame thing I saw on that trip and I had seen nothing like it before. It was surreal at the time. Here’s a picture:

YAKUZA YAKUZA YAKUZA YAKUZA. Heck even add Yakuza to the Nintendo Switch Online.

Honestly that Mario Golf update ruled. Very happy to see it getting some more post-launch support

First Final Fantasy. now Fortnite. Which gaming series should Ariana Grande appear in next?

Obviously, Ariana Grande should be put in Elden Ring.

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Honestly, Lucas’ piece about the McDonald’s Sony controller had me laughing real hard.

Any specific gaming plans for the weekend?

Going to play some more of the Back 4 Blood beta for sure.

Any non-gaming recommendations? Shows, Movies, and so on?

Nothing currently, but I am excited to check out The Suicide Squad movie that everyone has been talking about.

Bonus Question. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen or done relative to your career in games?

I don’t actually know if I’ve done anything weird in games, but my friend did once send me a photo of Geoff Keighley on a subway by himself so that was funny.
