What are your thoughts on the recently announced OLED Switch?

OLED screens are awesome, but this isn’t an “upgrade” in the sense people were hoping for. It’s more like a 3DS XL situation so I don’t really care? If my current Switch ever dies and there isn’t a “Pro” by then, sure.

How do you feel about “Director’s Cut” releases for games like Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima?

Videogames. Stop acting like you’re movies. Please, for god’s sake, I am begging you. Real talk, this stuff seems fine, especially if they’re charging for new content while giving some of the standard updates (4K, etc) for free. These make sense pragmatically for what these new consoles actually are.

Have you discovered any cool new indie games lately?

LiEat, from PLAYISM is a really neat mini-RPG that I’m playing on Switch. I think it’s tied to a light novel or something, but the game is basically little story vignettes about vampires and feelings and stuff.

We’re a little over halfway through 2021, what’s your GOTY so far?

Scarlet Nexus, maybe? I dunno. Frankly I haven’t really thought about it! Plenty of contenders by this point, however.

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Keep those Doki Doki Literature Club guides coming, Morgan!

Playing any fun or exciting video games this weekend?

Yes! No! Maybe? I’m tired.

Do you have any TV, movie, anime, or music recommendations that you’d like to share?

I want to watch some robot anime but I do not have time to watch robot anime. I am sad.

Bonus question, if you could participate in the development of a game what sort of role would you like (experience not required for this hypothetical)?

Gonna go the obvious route and say “writer.” Dunno about being a full-on narrative director or anything but being on a writing team for a game could be fun. Especially for something like a RPG with tons of side quests. Just being able to have my own little nuggets of story in there without having to wrangle other peoples’ work (but still see it in the game) has a kind of cozy appeal to me now that I’m thinking about it.

What are your thoughts on the recently announced OLED Switch?

I never play my Switch in Handheld mode so it’s not really something that I’m thinking about. Still holding out for a more powerful docked Switch.

How do you feel about “Director’s Cut” releases for games like Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima?

Director’s Cut is a weird phrasing for sure, but I think it’s better than calling these versions of games “Game of the Year” Edition or something like that. I was surprised with how much content the Death Stranding Director’s Cut has in it though.

Have you discovered any cool new indie games lately?

Unfortunately, nothing I can talk about…..yet.

We’re a little over halfway through 2021, what’s your GOTY so far?

Monster Hunter Rise, Guilty Gear Strive, Gnosia are all still pretty high on my list currently. I expect that to change in the next few months though.

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Morgan has been killing it on the guide front. So I want to take this time to appreciate all of their hard work and seriously check out those Fortnite and Doki Doki Literature guides.

Playing any fun or exciting video games this weekend?

Playing through monster Hunter Stories 2 at the moment for review, and some other stuff I can’t talk about yet.

Do you have any TV, movie, anime, or music recommendations that you’d like to share?

Still watching MasterChef and will keep recommending it until I finish. Also, SGDQ has been going all week so I’ve been watching a lot of that.

Bonus question, if you could participate in the development of a game what sort of role would you like (experience not required for this hypothetical)?

I’d love to do narrative design work. Mostly writing flavor text for item descriptions. That would be fun.

What are your thoughts on the recently announced OLED Switch?

I’m not mad about it. I love monochrome so seeing the black and white aesthetic of the OLED Switch, I really liked that. I think the improvements, while subtle, will be generally appreciated as well.

I also don’t think this means we won’t see a 4K Switch or a Switch Pro in the future, I’m sure Nintendo has more up their sleeve than just the OLED Switch.

How do you feel about “Director’s Cut” releases for games like Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima?

I agree with the discourse that it’s odd to use the word “Director’s Cut” rather than “Game of the Year Edition” which is what I’m more used to. Director’s Cut sounds… odd.

Anyway, I think for people who really love those games, or people who’ve been waiting to pick those games up, the Director’s Cut releases are awesome.

Have you discovered any cool new indie games lately?

I have! I’m thinking of doing like an indie game wishlist Wednesday to share all of the games I add to my Steam wishlist. Recently I added Eldritch House from Spooky Doorway, the people who did Darkside Detective. I think it looks amazing and is right up my alley in terms of interests.

We’re a little over halfway through 2021, what’s your GOTY so far?

For me the answer is easily Before Your Eyes. I sound like a broken record at this point, but it really is one of the most innovative, emotional experiences all packaged together into one brilliant game. My runner-up for GOTY is The Medium, which I know people will disagree with me on, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Definitely Lucas’s interview with Peter Petrides and Jesse’s hands-on preview of Space Punks

Playing any fun or exciting video games this weekend?

Possibly, although I think I’m going to work on some of the features I’m writing for the site. I’ve been working on one on why F.E.A.R. deserves a remake, but it’s one I really want to take my time with so I’m not rushing it.

It’ll hopefully be done next week, and I think spending time with it this weekend will help make it a better feature overall so I’m excited about that.

Do you have any TV, movie, anime, or music recommendations that you’d like to share?

I do! Discovered a really cool genre mashup over the 4th of July weekend where it blends k-pop and heavy metal and it just sounds so good, I really hope to see more k-pop groups experiment with blending rock and metal with k-pop, I think it works really well.

Bonus question, if you could participate in the development of a game what sort of role would you like (experience not required for this hypothetical)?

Writer, I’d love to work on writing an original story for a game! I feel like if I did, the game would probably have Alan Wake or Control vibes which would be cool. It’s very much my writing style when I write short fiction. So… Remedy Entertainment if you’re ever looking for a writer you know where to find me lol.
