Were there any announcements this week that surprised you?

A new Timesplitters being announced overnight was pretty dang left field for me. I had come to terms with Timesplitters 4 never happening, now here we are.

What are your thoughts on the Zelda and Loftwing amiibo keeping a quality of life (QOL) feature like fast travel for Skyward Sword HD locked behind a paid purchase?

I’ve never played Skyward Sword, so I wouldn’t know the difference either way first hand. But like, you don’t need to buy the amiibo. People rip the NFC data off those things and put them in cards and stuff. It is pretty bizarre though. Videogames were a mistake.

Are you planning on checking out Mario Golf: Super Rush? What are your thoughts on the game so far?

I respect Mario Golf from a distance, but I have negative interest in playing golf. Any form of golf. I’ll mess with Mario Tennis, Strikers or Hoops no problem, but I just cannot bring myself to enjoy even silly cartoon golf. It’s too fumbly and boring to watch.

What are some of your favorite video game music covers done by musicians online, like on YouTube?

Oh god I could write an essay here. Growing up I was huge into a band called The NESkimos, and there’s never been a band like it since. I’ve been to MAGfest almost every year, and have seen tons of VG cover bands live, so here’s a small list of favs:

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Morgan’s Days Gone interview! Love a Morgan interview.

Playing any fun or exciting video games this weekend?

Yup! Gonna have a cool review ready for y’all on Monday.

Any TV, anime, movie, or music recommendations to give out based on the stuff you’ve been enjoying lately?

The HBO-produced Looney Tunes is dope. For real.

Bonus question, if you could change anything about one of your favorite games, what would it be?

It isn’t my favorite game, but if I could turn off enemy respawns in Kirby’s Dream Land 2, it would be.

Were there any announcements this week that surprised you?

I’m surprised that Saints Row The Thirds is getting a Remaster. I vaguely remember people not being super hot on that game.

What are your thoughts on the Zelda and Loftwing amiibo keeping a quality of life (QOL) feature like fast travel for Skyward Sword HD locked behind a paid purchase?

I’ve never played Skyward Sword so I don’t actually know how useful that addition is to the game. The Amiibo itself seems nice enough, but I don’t really have any connection to it or the game.

Are you planning on checking out Mario Golf: Super Rush? What are your thoughts on the game so far?

Mario Golf looks super sick. It’s certainly going to be my June game pickup. Excited to play with friends and check out that Speed Golf mode.

What are some of your favorite video game music covers done by musicians online, like on YouTube?

I don’t listen to a ton of covers, but there is one video game compilation video I listen to. Nostalgic Video Game Beats to Sip Coffee To.

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Very much enjoyed Morgan’s interview with the Days Gone developers.

Playing any fun or exciting video games this weekend?

More Mass Effect for sure!

Any TV, anime, movie, or music recommendations to give out based on the stuff you’ve been enjoying lately?

I’ve been really out of the TV and movie games lately. This week was filled with so many other projects and work stuff that I don’t actually know what to watch or check out this week.

Bonus question, if you could change anything about one of your favorite games, what would it be?

My only change to Viva Pinata is that I would change nothing about it.

Were there any announcements this week that surprised you?

The collaboration between Fender and FFXIV for sure. I’d love to see more guitar companies collaborate to create guitars like the FFXIV Fender Strat. It’s not only lovely to look at, but it’s actually playable! It’s not just a promo toy or collectible for the sake of a collectible, and I really like that.

What are your thoughts on the Zelda and Loftwing amiibo keeping a quality of life (QOL) feature like fast travel for Skyward Sword HD locked behind a paid purchase?

On the one hand, I agree that not just adding fast travel to the game itself and instead only offering it through the amiibo is a little messed up. However, I can also see what Nintendo was doing in terms of wanting the amiibo to come with a really cool feature for Skyward Sword HD to promo both the amiibo and the game. I just think they picked the wrong feature.

Are you planning on checking out Mario Golf: Super Rush? What are your thoughts on the game so far?

After seeing the overview video this week I am actually really interested in it now. It looks like it could be a really fun sort of party game to play with people and it has a lot more content than I expected from a “Mario Golf” game.

What are some of your favorite video game music covers done by musicians online, like on YouTube?

I wrote about Smooth McGroove on the site this week, I am constantly impressed by the acapella covers he puts out, they’re fantastic. With that being said, I’d also give a shoutout to 331Erock who does metal guitar covers for everything, including video games. Here’s his metal cover for Apex Legends, and his metal cover for Tetris.

Favorite piece(s) on the site this week, and why?

Loved the Shin Megami Tensei review from Lucas, definitely one to check out! I’d also add my interview with Eric Jensen and Zachary Lewis of Bend Studio, that was such a cool opportunity.

Playing any fun or exciting video games this weekend?

I’ve been going back through Horizon Zero Dawn for mental health reasons, and to prepare for Horizon Forbidden West at some point this year (hopefully). I’ll also be doing more RE Village, Tetris (as always), and MLB The Show 21 which I didn’t expect to be as into as I am but here we are lol.

Any TV, anime, movie, or music recommendations to give out based on the stuff you’ve been enjoying lately?

Always in with the music suggestions. The “Flavors of Love” album from Monsta X has been on repeat for me lately, it’s their Japanese album. They’re going to have another album out in June and I am naturally very stoked for that.

Other than that, I’d also say that Tremonti’s first solo album All I Was always hits me emotionally, it came out during a really bad time in my life and helped me through it. It’s always nice to listen to, it has that good memory nostalgia juice to it, you know?

Bonus question, if you could change anything about one of your favorite games, what would it be?

I’d add a mode without building in Fortnite. I’d also have a Tetris game with a social component to it, like what Tetris Friends used to have back in the day.

Hmm… I’d also really like to see a quality remake of the first F.E.A.R. game or similar to the Mass Effect trilogy, something like that with all three F.E.A.R. games. Yep, would spend a lot of money on that to be sure.
