What did you think of The Game Awards 2020?

I’ve watched these things ever since the dark days of Spike TV, and I have never had to expend so much mental energy to process some of the things during the 2020 show. I’m pretty sure my soul left my body for a moment when the Vin Diesel Jungle Adventure video faded into an Ark II logo. I’m not sure if it’s back yet. Also, Morgan, Jessie and I all watched it in a Google Meet together, which was a lot of fun.

Were you rooting for any specific games to win certain awards, like Game of the Year?

I was rooting against The Last of Us Part II. As you can see, that didn’t go so well. I got a whiff of the faint odor of Justice when I saw Streets of Rage 4 nominated in one category, but I knew better than to get my hopes up.

What were some of your favorite trailers and announcements from The Game Awards 2020?

I marked out for Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrected and I’m not ashamed to admit it. The Sephiroth trailer was Nintendo-flavored anarchy, and that was a riot to see in real time.

Favorite piece on the site this week, and why?

This week was more of the grunt work than fun features and stuff, but I got a real kick out of Jesse’s “John Halo,” and I was glad to see Morgan cover the Tetris competition.

What games are you planning to play over the weekend?

I’m not really sure. Lots of half-finished games are really piling up, but I’m sure I’ll uncontrollably fixate on something completely different.

Are you watching anything interesting (movies, TV) that you’d recommend?

I don’t have anything planned, but I’ve had a hankering to watch some anime for a while I haven’t had time to satisfy. Might fire up the ol’ Funimation app and peep some Mobile Suit Gundam.

Bonus question, do you like to make characters in video games look like you, or do you customize them and make them look different? Or a bit of both?

I could insert myself into videogames, but the videogames already did it for me.

What did you think of The Game Awards 2020?

Overall I thought it was pretty good, all things considered. Would have liked more time focused on the actual awards and the devs behind the games, but also I get that Geoff’s got to pay the bills.

Were you rooting for any specific games to win certain awards, like Game of the Year?

In my heart I wanted Hades to win, but The Last of Us Part 2 started it’s sweep early so I had some time to prepare.

What were some of your favorite trailers and announcements from The Game Awards 2020?

I’m still reeling from that Mass Effect trailer, I’m also super into Back 4 Blood.

Favorite piece on the site this week, and why?

It was a super heavy news week so I think my favorite piece boils down to the fact that we’re already talking about the next Yakuza

What games are you planning to play over the weekend?

I’m going to try and put some more time into Cyberpunk, I also have Interview with The Whisperer and If Found calling my name.

Are you watching anything interesting (movies, TV) that you’d recommend?

I started The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix and I highly recommend it. Even if you’re not a fan of Chess it’s pretty dang interesting.

Bonus question, do you like to make characters in video games look like you, or do you customize them and make them look different? Or a bit of both?

I usually try to make something different from myself, especially if it’s high fantasy. I love getting to play an Orc or Troll if I can. For Cyberpunk I made a real monstrosity of a cyber human.

What did you think of The Game Awards 2020?

I thought it was long, or at least, it felt long. Some of the awards felt rushed through, but that’s no different than previous years. There were some genuinely funny moments this year as well, like Vin Diesel in ARK 2 and the acceptance speech where the woman was outside behind a window. I just… I don’t know why that was so funny to me, but it was. Social distancing to the max.

Were you rooting for any specific games to win certain awards, like Game of the Year?

I’m a huge fan of Ghost of Tsushima. Even though I knew in my heart it wouldn’t win, I couldn’t help but want it to win more awards than it did. And of course, Hades. I’m always excited to see indie games nominated at The Game Awards, they deserve that and so much more.

I was really happy to see the Among Us team take a number of wins though. Their acceptance speeches were so wholesome. #supportindiegames

What were some of your favorite trailers and announcements from The Game Awards 2020?

Back 4 Blood really got me excited, I’m a huge Left 4 Dead fan and this game looks like Left 4 Dead but to the extreme. I also enjoyed the trailers for The Callisto Protocol, them wanting to make it as scary as possible is music to my ears. Some great indie trailers in there as well, like Season. Very eager to learn more about it and games like Open Roads.

Favorite piece on the site this week, and why?

Really enjoyed the Monster Sanctuary review from Lucas, and I agree, Jesse’s John Halo was spot on.

What games are you planning to play over the weekend?

I want to get farther in Cyberpunk 2077, and I’ll probably end up playing some Black Ops Cold War multiplayer (I’ve been really enjoying it), and some Tetris (as always).

Are you watching anything interesting (movies, TV) that you’d recommend?

I haven’t been watching much of anything lately, sadly. After playing Cyberpunk I want to watch movies like Blade Runner and The Fifth Element, so I might do that. It sounds fun. I also highly recommend both.

Bonus question, do you like to make characters in video games look like you, or do you customize them and make them look different? Or a bit of both?

It’s interesting, I primarily pick male characters in video games. I feel more comfortable with them. So no, they don’t look like me. A few times, I’ve tried to make characters look a little bit like me, but they always end up looking more like what I wish I looked like versus what I actually look like. That’s the beauty of video games though, the fantasy of it all.
