In Other Waters Is a Calming Experience for Switch and PC That Should Not Be Overlooked

by Liana Ruppert

There are a lot of things going on right now in the world that is causing anxiety to spike, trepidation to spread, and uncertainity to sink in. For many, gaming has been a solace, a safe place, to fall into. For those looking for a new experience to get lost in In Other Waters is a calming nautic experience coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on April 3rd and it’s definitely a title that looks to be exactly what many need right now.

So what is Other Waters about? According to the official Steam page: “When Ellery is called to planet Gliese 677Cc by Minae Nomura, only to arrive at an abandoned base, she finds herself adrift in an ocean of secrets, with little more than a malfunctioning diving suit and a strange AI to guide her. You are this AI.

“Guide Ellery—and keep her safe—as you dive deeper and explore an underwater alien landscape. The planet’s unique life, and its dark history, are yours to uncover and the bond between you and Ellery will be tested by the secrets you learn. Through this shifting narrative, In Other Waters asks questions about the nature of “natural” and “artificial” life, and investigates what it means to be a human in an epoch of extreme environmental destruction. For life to continue, it must change.”

The latest adventure comes from the developers over at Jump Over the Age and published by Fellow Traveller. Exploration, mysteries, serenity, a game filled with solutions and working towards a bright future in a time that feels bleak – this looks to have the substance of a narrative that sticks with players long after the end credits roll.

This adventure game being on the Switch is also perfect with so many confined to their homes. Take your in-game exploration to your bed, your couch, any place that gives you a sense of peace. This adventure is one of those that enraptures players and keeps their attention until the very end. It balances wild exploration and pairs it with the old text adventure games that so many of us grew up with. A perfect haven of calm right now for those that need it most.

You’ll be able to play it for yourself soon enough when In Other Waters debuts on PC and Nintendo Switch on April 3rd.
