Murdered: Soul Suspect Advanced Tips

Uncover the secrets of Salem to find Ronan's killer.
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

When Airtight Games said that Murdered: Soul Suspect was story driven, they sure weren’t kidding. It’s not a game that will test your skills as a player, but there are a few tricks you can use while tracking down the Bell Killer. Yesterday, we showed you some Beginner’s Tips. Today, we’ll touch on the more advanced side of things. Well, as advanced as you would expect from a game that focuses mostly on plot.

Gathering Collectibles

Collectibles are generally divided between primary objectives. You might have noticed water heaters laying around in the early part of the game. Each time you collect one, you’ll get a notification that tells you how many are left to discover. If you find them all, you’ll reveal different secrets of Salem.

Besides revealing more of the story through gathering collectibles, these extras will also help you get closer to 100 percent completion. For example, if you collect all the water heaters in the first part of the game, you’ll unlock A Watery Grave trophy/achievement. The same can be done by discovering all of the saws hidden throughout the church. You get the idea.

Let’s Play 20 Questions

For the most part, it doesn’t seem to matter what order you ask the questions in. Try not to spend a lot of time worrying about this, opting instead to simply ask them in the order that they appear. Since there is only one ending, you’re bound to end up in the same place eventually, regardless of whether or not the path you take is the same as the next person.

Distracting Demons

Early in the game, there aren’t many Demons to worry about. As you progress, though, it isn’t unheard of to run into five or six of them. That’s usually a good indication that you’re on the right path. These monstrous souls tend to lurk in the exact area where you need to be.

Rather than just approach and execute them, more than likely alerting the others to your presence, try looking for a distraction in the area. A really good example of this comes near the end of the game. As you make your way through the Judgment House you’ll notice some birds. Using them as a distraction will draw a Demon away from the pack, allowing you to sneak up behind it for the execution. Keep repeating this process until there aren’t any left and you’re free to explore.

Defeating the Bell Killer

To be fair, Murdered: Soul Suspect presents little in the way of a serious challenge. It might get you to solve some puzzles and search for clues, but those adrenaline pumping, make it or break it moments don’t show up until near the very end. In one particular situation, players must race to save Joy by selecting the proper clue to rescue her from the Bell Killer. For those struggling with this part (and because it is one of the only challenging moments of the game), selecting the Powerful Scream clue will cause the Bell Killer to break his hold on Joy and move you that much closer to completing the game.
