With a colorful graphical pallet and addictive arcade fishing, you’ll find that the hours will just melt away while you’re reeling in some giant catches that would make your buddies blush. Plus, plenty of free updates are being released for this title, so you can play with friends and jump into various new story missions to keep the action going.

One part video game and another part social hub, Rec Room, is a great place to gather together with friends and family to partake in some multiplayer shenanigans. Then you need to jump into Population: One, a battle-royale game that pits you against other players in a variety of different modes and even offers some single-player and co-op options if you’re hoping to blow off some steam with your friends hunting down different bots throughout the variety of maps available. It’s a unique experience and makes the pressure of surviving in a Battle Royale even more exciting than ever before, and is something you should try at least once.
Cards & Tankards

One part collectible card/miniature game, another part social experiment, Cards & Tankards will transport you to a fantasy world where your tiny minions can come to life on the table before you. As you draw cards from your deck, you’ll see the creatures spring to life before you, and it’s up to you to choose where they go, how they attack, and with what frequency. Sure, it’s rather simplistic, but its addictive nature and the general vibe of this particular experience make it worth a try, especially if you can gather a group of friends together to join you for a few pints of virtual grog when you decimate their budding army.

Sushi Ben – $24.99
Sushi Ben is a hidden gem brought to life on Meta Quest by the brains behind Hatoful Boyfriend. Yes, the pigeon dating simulator game. However, Sushi Ben is one of those games that can only be pulled off in VR, and it’s a shame that it isn’t receiving the recognition it deserves. It’s essentially a manga brought to life before you, featuring a colorful cast of characters, zany hijinx, and more heart than the Grinch come Christmas time. If you’ve got a Meta Quest, be sure to give this one a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Eleven Table Tennis – $29.99
Did I ever expect my most played VR game to be a Table Tennis simulator? Absolutely not. Do I regret any time that I’ve put into this particular game? Once again, absolutely not. Eleven Table Tennis is some of the most fun I’ve ever had gaming, no matter if I’m facing off against challenging CPU opponents or taking the battle online against other like-minded gamers. The simulation of this game feels almost unreal, as it’s a near one-to-one replica of the actual sport and provides countless hours of fun. Those with a Meta Quest 3 can also take advantage of the unique pass-through mode to place their table directly in their living room, making it more realistic.
Warplanes: Battles over Pacific – $19.99

If you’ve got the stomach to handle it, Warplanes: Battles over Pacific is one of the most graphically impressive games on the Meta Quest family of headsets. Seated directly in the cockpit of these classic WW2-era fighter planes, you’ll be at the helm of these massive metal birds. Not only does the game look fantastic and give you the horrifying sense of verticality that being in a real plane would, but it controls like a dream, allowing you to pull off daring stunts with just a little practice. The dogfights feel fantastic, and it’s a dream come true for someone who wants to strap into the seat of one of these iconic planes.
Walkabout Mini Golf – $14.99

Another game that completely took me by surprise has to be Walkabout Mini Golf. Growing up in the Midwest, it feels like you can’t drive anywhere without spotting a few small Mini Golf courses in your vicinity, and Walkabout Mini Golf captures the feeling almost perfectly. I can’t recall the number of times I almost fell over because I was so immersed and tried to lean on something within the virtual walls of these fantastical courses, but it’s a number I’m likely too embarrassed to recall. If you’re a fan of Mini Golf and want to partake in a few courses in the comfort of your home, this is the game for you.
Five Nights At Freddy’s: Help Wanted – $29.99

If you’re someone who can’t get enough of the Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise, then we have a treat for you. The games are scary enough in 3D, but VR takes it an extra step further, allowing you to see how absolutely massive these animatronic creatures are in “real life”. You’re dropped into this world with a very specific role, and you’ll need to participate in some games to prove that you’ve got what it takes to survive in the FNAF universe. I thought I was brave enough, but the first time I got jumpscared in VR, I just about jumped through the roof. It’s terrifying in all the right ways and offers plenty of replayability to beat your previous scores and times.
There are so many unique experiences that can only happen in VR, so use our list and start building up your library of not only free-to-play games but also other unique experiences to make your headset worth the investment.
