Halo 5 Guardians – Single Player Details, Warzone Trailer

by Prima Games Staff

After teasing fans for over a year and then giving them a short but sweet look at the game’s multiplayer, Microsoft and 343 Industries finally offered a glimpse at the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer campaign. The short video left us with even more questions, but there’s no denying Halo 5 is the biggest Xbox One game debuting this holiday season.

The game allows players to control two separate four-man fire teams. Master Chief leads one (not shown), while Agent Locke controls the other, comprised of Edward Buck (the same character from Halo: ODST, played by Nathan Fillion), Holly Tanaka and finally, a Spartan named Vale. The computer controls these three characters if you elect to play solo, or you can call up some friends for drop in/drop-out co-op.

Watch the Halo 5 campaign demo below.

They go in search of Master Chief, deep into Covenant territory, which Microsoft referred to as the final stronghold. We saw one character heal a downed teammate, along with weapon footage of the Battle Rifle and the Plasma Caster, which fires concentrated energy blasts to deal big time damage.

Cool-looking firefights took place. One downed Covenant says, “I will never bow to infidels” before Locke puts one final bullet in the creature’s head.

In addition, the Arbiter from Halo 2 returns, once again played by actor Keith David. Later, we saw the squad play in action, with Locke ordering two Spartans to flank while he acts as a decoy. Later, the squad encounters a mysterious enemy, a giant alien wielding a sword, who says Master Chief was allowed to move on from this point, but not this squad. Who this character is remains to be seen.

When the single player demo concluded, Microsoft revealed a new multiplayer mode, Warzone. Upon first glance, this player-versus-player mode bears a striking resemblance to EA’s Battlefield franchise. It seems all of the Halo vehicles are available, including Warthogs, Wraiths, Drop Ships and even new rides like a mech suit. The mode supports 24 players on the same map, and the footage showcased multiple on-screen characters belonging to both UNSC and Covenant forces.  Considering it’ll feature the biggest maps in the Halo franchise, we expect endless possibilities for teamwork and overall strategy.

Thankfully, Warzone is playable at E3 2015 this week in Los Angeles, and we expect to learn new details in the coming days.  For now, watch the trailer below to see Warzone in action, and let us know what you think of this new ambitious mode!
