Fortnite x NBA Introduces The Struggle of Trying to Support a Good Team

Member spots are going fast!

On the Fortnite Blog, a new Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover event was announced in celebration of the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Through the event, players will be able to pick their favorite team out of a lineup of 30 NBA teams and support them in becoming one of the top ranked teams once the event ends on May 23.

In doing so, they’ll be able to earn in-game rewards including (possibly, should your team do well) V-Bucks. All of this sounds great so far… except for the fact that “Member” sign-ups are limited to the first 15,000 players and all of the good teams are currently full.

Additionally, “Fan” sign-ups are going fast with only the first 550,000 players able to sign up as a Fan and support a team that way. What does this mean? Well, it means you might end up stuck with a team you don’t want.

As of the time of this writing, you can select teams like the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz to join as a Member. If you can’t bring yourself to select them, “Fan” spots for teams like the Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers, and Golden State Warriors are still available.

Fortnite x NBA Introduces The Struggle of Trying to Support a Good Team

One of the main questions Fortnite players will have is how to participate in the Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover event. To participate, you’ll first need to head over to the Fortnite x NBA Team Battles website and log into your account.

After that, you’ll be asked to select an NBA team to join either as a Member or a Fan. As mentioned above, most of the teams that people want are already taken if you’re looking to join as a Member.

Fortunately, Fan spots are still available for all of the popular teams that have reached their max Member count like the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. So, if you’re less than stoked about being a Member of a less desirable team, rest assured that signing up as a “Fan” is an option.

Note that only the first 550,000 players will be able to sign up as a “Fan” for a team. After that 550,000 threshold has been met, Fan sign-ups will close.

Similar to Members, Fans have a chance to earn in-game rewards in Fortnite. We personally decided to pick one of the remaining teams with Member sign-ups available so that we could experience the event fully from that angle.

As for the team we went with, we settled on one from our old home state of California, the Sacramento Kings. Having grown up in California’s central valley, we’ve heard our fair share of jokes about the Kings. But hey, their stadium isn’t bad.

In fact, we saw a Tool concert at the Kings stadium back in the day, so we have fond memories of… the stadium. We like to poke fun, but it’s admittedly kind of cool to be able to earn points for more of an “underdog” team. Who knows, maybe by the end of the event the Kings will finally have a chance to win something.

Anyway, one of the other questions Fortnite players are likely to have in regards to the event centers around the in-game items and V-Bucks they can win.

The first three days of Fortnite’s NBA Team Battles (May 19 through May 21) will offer Challenge Tasks to players, viewable on the Team Battles website. For example, our first Challenge Task was to play 24 minutes of Fortnite in any regular mode. Pretty straightforward.

By completing the Challenge Tasks you’re given, you’ll be able to unlock the “Spin!” in-game Spray and an in-game Banner. Then, on May 22 through May 23, the leaderboards for Team Battles will be turned on and viewable.

At this point, you’ll be able to track your team’s progress. The higher your team’s position, the better a chance you have of earning additional rewards including V-Bucks and the “NBA Championship Trophy” Back Bling.

Keep in mind that once you’re signed up as a Member or a Fan, you’ll need to complete at least one Challenge Task within the first 24 hours of the time you signed up. If you fail to do this, you’ll be removed from the team and disqualified from the Fortnite x NBA Team Battles event.

With that out of the way, we’ve listed the prizes that can be won by participating in the Fortnite x NBA Team Battles event with text courtesy of the Fortnite Blog.
