Fortnite Battle Royale and PUBG – Biggest Differences

Learn the differences between Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (or PUBG as the community knows it) made quite a splash when it released into Early Access earlier this year. Bringing the intensity of H1Z1’s King of the Kill back to a more realistic environment was a welcome change for many players, and at the time of this writing, over 600,000 people are currently trying to battle their way into the number one spot in the game. PUBG isn’t the first “battle royale” game ever made, and there’s no doubt that it won’t be the last. In fact, recently Epic Games made the push into the Battle Royale genre with their very own free-to-play Battle Royale game, which is set inside the universe that they created with Fortnite. In this article we’ll take a closer look at Fortnite Battle Royale vs. PUBG.

It’s one of the busiest times of the year for gamers right now, and as players struggle to shift their time between their favorites and big, new releases, many people have been wondering—just how different are Fortnite’s Battle Royale and PUBG? To help answer the question, we’ve taken a look at both games, and we’ll go over the differences—as well as some of the similarities—in the article below. So, if you’re wondering what makes these two games special, then keep reading to see just how different of an experience they both have to offer.

Prepare for Landing

On the surface, both PUBG and Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode look similar, right from the start. Players load into a lobby with others, where they can mess around until the game starts. Once the game starts, players are all dumped into an airplane (or an airbus if you’re playing Fortnite). From here the similarities end for the most part, though, as Fortnite’s jumping is much faster-paced, and you can get further on the map than you can in PUBG.

Crafting Defenses

Perhaps the biggest difference that you’ll find between PUBG and Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode is the crafting that Fortnite brings to the table. While it isn’t as in-depth as regular Fortnite’s crafting, you’ll find that the ability to create stairs, walls, and other buildable objects plays well within the environment, and being able to create your own defenses on the go will make it very easy to defend yourself against other players. PUBG doesn’t offer any type of crafting system, so that’s one area that Fortnite stands out.

Shooting Mechanics

Another big difference between Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode and PUBG is the way that the game handles shooting mechanics. While PUBG takes a more realistic approach to things, Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode features shooting mechanics very similar to the base Fortnite mechanics. This means you’ll get a much more arcade-like experience in Fortnite, whereas PUBG will require more precise timing, leading, and aiming from its players.

If you’re looking for more of a laidback experience that offers a more arcade-like experience, then Fortnite Battle Royale is the way to go. But, if you want something that’s going to offer a more realistic and intense experience, then PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is going to be the game for you. Either way, you’ll find a good battle royale experience, no matter which game you decide to play.
