Here are five Steam Next Fest June 2025 demos that are worth checking out, putting on your wishlist, and singing praises about over the internet.

A neat feature with individual demo entries on Steam is that you can leave reviews on them. While Steam requires 500 reviews as a minimum for the prized “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating, I’m going to relax that a bit for some of my picks below and instead focus on games that received at least 90% positive reviews.

Dead as Disco

  • Developer: Brain Jar Games
  • Release Date: Coming Soon

Character action games might not be the most popular genre anymore, but that hasn’t stopped smaller developers from keeping the scene alive. Dead as Disco feels like a mashup of Hi-Fi Rush’s beat-driven combat, the aesthetics of disco, and a sprinkle of God Hand’s empowering animations, resulting in a highly engaging action experience that never misses a beat. It plays great and is easy to get into thanks to a robust tutorial.

The demo is packed with content, including an endless mode and the ability to import your MP3 tracks for a more personal touch. Yes, people have already added “Devil Trigger” to the game. I’ve seen the videos.

NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound

  • Demo Link
  • Developer: The Game Kitchen
  • Release Date: July 31, 2025

Here’s a scary fact. It has been 33 years since the release of a 2D Ninja Gaiden game. The original Ninja Gaiden games were equally hardcore with a focus on deliberate strikes, intense platforming, and a high skill ceiling. So, what other studio to tackle this but The Game Kitchen, the studio behind the incredible Blasphemous games?

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is exactly the kind of modern action title sorely missing on the market. It’s not a metroidvania, or a rogue-like, but an honest to God action platformer that’s gorgeous, impeccably paced, and fairly challenging that rewards mastery of its simple, but engaging mechanics.

No, I’m not a Human

  • Demo Link
  • Developer: Trioskaz
  • Release Date: Q3 2025

Enough action, let’s shift gears a bit, shall we? No, I’m not a Human is a horror game where you have to decide which of the people seeking refuge at your place are humans or “visitors”. Think Papers, Please but far more unsettling.

I don’t think I know how to describe this horror game, but it’s extremely creepy and does a great job of inducing paranoia and anxiety in a way I haven’t experienced in a video game before.

Dispatch

  • Demo Link
  • Developer: AdHoc Studio
  • Release Date: 2025

The team behind The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands is back with a workplace comedy starring the likes of Aaron Paul, Jeffrey Wright, Laura Bailey, and a lot more. Think Invincible, but instead of playing a Supe, you’re a pencil-pusher who wants to become a hero himself.

The writing and voice acting are fantastic, and considering the team behind the game, there are plenty of narrative decisions to make along the way.

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream

  • Demo Link
  • Developer: River End Games
  • Release Date: July 15, 2025

Last on the list is Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream, an isometric stealth game that surprised everyone with its gorgeous visuals and high-quality cinematics, but most importantly, commando-like gameplay.

It still stings that Mimimi Games shut down, but games like Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream give me hope that there is still love for this niche genre, and the Steam reviews reflect just that.

These are just a few of the many demos you can check out during the latest Steam Next Fest 2025. Have you played anything from my list? Share your recommendations in the comments below.

Ali Hashmi

Ali has been writing about video games for the past six years and is always on the lookout for the next indie game to obsess over and recommend to everyone in sight. When he isn't spending an unhealthy amount of time in Slay the Spire, he's probably trying out yet another retro-shooter or playing Dark Souls for the 50th time.
