The third expansion for Destiny, The Taken King, will release on September 15. With it comes a new portion of the single player campaign, where Guardians attempt to board the Dreadnought Ship to kill Oryx. In addition, players can expect new weapons, Strikes, Crucible Maps and one of the biggest surprises, three new subclasses for Hunters, Titans and Warlocks, which give Destiny fans new ways to enjoy Bungie’s multiplayer-focused shooter. With that in mind, here’s what you can expect from each subclass in the new Destiny DLC.
Unlock all of the subclass super abilities, swords and more with Prima’s Destiny: The Taken King Guide.
Titan – Sunbreaker
As the name implies, the Titan Sunbreaker harnesses the power of fire to deal massive damage. Pulverize enemies with the subclass super, the Hammer of Sol, a flaming hammer that’ll potentially kill multiple foes at once.
From there, we have the Thermite Grenade. Throw one of these incendiary weapons and the resulting explosion creates a line of fire that travels directly to the intended target.
We finish off this subclass with the Sunstrike and Fire Keeper. The former sets enemies ablaze with solar power, while the latter increases the duration of Hammer of Sol. You also gain an overshield for using it, providing you’re close to a Sunspot.
Hunter – Nightstalker
The Nightstalker terrorizes his or her enemies with the Shadowshot, a super that tethers multiple aliens to a Void Anchor, with the ultimate of goal of slowing their movements long enough so the rest of the fireteam can move in for the kill.
With your enemies immobilized, considering throwing a Voidwall Grenade in their direction. The blast results in a horizontal wall of Void Light making things nice and crispy.
If there are too many bad guys to deal with, unleash Smoke to leave them disoriented. Combine this with Shadestep to not only avoid taking damage, but quickly appear someplace else to gain the tactical advantage.
Warlock – Stormcaller
Finally we have the Stormcaller, a subclass with the ability to bend Arc energy to its will. Its super, Stormtrance, lets players fire Arc-Lightning from their hands like Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi. If they prefer something more dramatic, the Storm Grenade literally results in a lightning storm.
Thunderstrike builds off this with a melee attack to electrocute opponents from range. We round out the subclass with Perpetual Charge, where scoring a grenade kill recharges your melee attack, while successfully performing a melee strike recharges your grenade.
