The idea of mech combat in virtual reality has been an ongoing dream of many virtual reality lovers for as long as we can remember. Since the early days of VR, developers have tried long and hard to bring the tangible feeling of being inside of a mech to life with virtual reality. Unfortunately, none have ever come that close, at least not until now.

Archangel: Hellfire, the latest update to Skydance Interactive’s Archangel game, brings free-movement, as well as world-class and immersive combat to virtual reality. It’s a mech lovers dream come true, and we’re not the only ones that think so.

Speaking with several people who had a chance to try out the game, the reports were all around the same. Archangle: Hellfire brings one of the most tangible mech experiences ever created to virtual reality by giving players a smooth and immersive experience. Controls within the actual cockpit of the mech allow you to feel like you’re within the world, acting as you would if you were really there.

Control of the arms, while also maintaining a free movement system with the head, allows the user to really get into the combat in a way that hasn’t been entirely possible before. On top of offering the free movement system, as well as full-on mech combat, Skydance Interactive also worked hard to ensure that, while Archangel: Hellfire is a hardcore mech experience, the overall feeling of the experience itself is easy on people—both those accustomed and new to virtual reality.

It is this smooth yet fully immersive experience that helps set Archangel: Hellfire apart from any other mech-based combat games currently available in virtual reality. Players can easily see their teammates, enemies, and all of the information that they need right on a HUD that sticks with them as they look around and move freely through the world, destroying pieces of the world and taking out their enemies.

You can check out the action yourself and hear some of the responses that people have had to the game in the video above, which showcases the HUD, the combat itself, and even goes in-depth on what it is like to sit inside the cockpit of a mech in Archangel: Hellfire. You can download the full update for Archangel: Hellfire right now and dive into the action and experience the full breadth of mech combat in virtual reality for yourself.
