Street Fighter 5 Guide and Tips – Strategies, Alternate Costumes, Fight Money

If you’re just getting started in Street Fighter 5, we’ve got the tips and strategies you need!
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Street Fighter 5 is published by Capcom and developed by Dimps. It released on February 16, 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam). The game implements quite a bit of changes from Street Fighter 4 that will help newcomers get into the fighting game genre, while giving seasoned veterans and tournament players a more rewarding system that doesn’t allow for the easier comeback mechanics of Street Fighter 4. This guide covers the basics for beginners and starts to dive into more hardcore strategies for tournament players.

Street Fighter 5 Tips

  • Don’t always rely on jumping to move around the screen or avoid projectile attacks.
  • Blocking and defense win matches more than mashing out attacks as quickly as possible. Take your time and block a few attacks before you start pressing buttons.
  • Save your Critical Art to end a match. If you use it in the end of the first round you will not have any meter going into the next round.
  • Some characters have very good EX special moves and won’t be using Critical Art attacks as much as other characters.
  • Use anti-air attacks to knock your opponent out of the air when they jump toward you.
  • Throws can work well to get through a defensive opponent, but the range of throws is considerably shorter than it was in Street Fighter 4.
  • Blocking a special move inflicts chip damage, but it will not result in a KO like in previous Street Fighter titles. The only blocked attacks that can end a round are Critical Arts.
