Gears of War 4 Tips

Learn how to change weapons, customize your character, and reload correctly in the latest Gears of War title. Before we dive into the meat of this guide, we’d like to offer a few tips to help players get the hand of the unique combat system in Gears of War 4.

  • The Gears of War series uses a special reload mechanic called Active Reload. This requires you to press the Reload button at a specific point in time to reload faster and more efficiently. Always aim for the bright white spot in the Active Reload Bar. This will reload your weapon the fastest, and allow you to take out more enemies.
  • Take cover. Cover in Gears of War is extremely important. You’ll need to hide behind every corner, barricade, or obstacle you can find to keep the enemy’s shots from hitting you.
  • Pay attention to your allies. If your allies go down in battle, and you don’t get them back up, they will perish for good, causing you to restart at the last checkpoint.
  • Communicate. If you’re playing CoOp, then communication is key. Make sure you don’t run through the level, claiming all of the ammunition for yourself. This will leave your allies without any ammo, which could cost you your life.
  • Listen to the NPCs. In boss fights, and special areas of the game the NPCs will chat, giving off clues about what you’re supposed to do. If you’re having trouble completing an area, just make sure you’re listening to what they have to say.
  • Don’t be afraid to melee enemies. The Lancer’s chainsaw attachment is great for clearing out small enemies and keeping them off you. If any of the Swarm happen to get too close, just hit them back using your melee.

Play with friends. Gears of War is best enjoyed when you play it with a friend. Not only does it give you a more reliable ally, but it also allows you to enjoy the spectacular moments, and the twists and turns with someone else.
