As is usually the case, there is a small list of characters you can recruit in Fire Emblem Engage. These characters are typically missable, so if you don’t recruit them when they’re immediately available you won’t be able to use them for the rest of the game. Whuh-oh! So if you want a clean run with all the possible characters in your army, here’s what you need to know. Mostly, it just involves talking to people.

Fire Emblem Engage Recruitment Guide: How to Recruit Units
There are five characters who fall into that “optional” category. Everyone else you’ll simply encounter through advancing the story, and they join you without any extra effort on your part. If you’re worried about spoilers here for your time in Fire Emblem Engage, I’ll be brief on details. But if even naming these heroes is a problem, you may as well stop reading here and come back later. I’ll hold you to that, though. Don’t ask me how. Anyway, here’s the list:
- Jean – Paralogue Mission Budding Talent
- Anna – Paralogue Mission Mysterious Merchant
- Jade – Chapter Nine: A Clash of Forces
- Seadall – Chapter 15: A Dancer in the Ruins
- Saphir – Chapter 19: The Dead Town
For almost all of these characters, you simply need to approach them with Alear (the protagonist) and use the Talk action when stopping next to them. For Jade though, you need to talk to her with Diamant instead. Same deal though; no hoops to jump through otherwise.
Keep in mind the Paralogue Mission thing is something that comes up between chapters. Budding Talent is available between chapters five and six, and Mysterious Merchant is available between chapters six and seven.
That’s all for recruitment in Fire Emblem Engage. Just be glad I personally don’t care much about spoilers so I was willing to look into this. You’re welcome.
