If you run into the waiting for activation error message there are a few things you can do to fix it.

Always make sure that you’re either connected to your cellular data or a nearby wifi signal. If you don’t have either of these connections you won’t be able to send any messages at all.

The next step you should take is restarting both the iMessage and Facetime services

  • In the settings menu go to Messages and turn off iMessage
  • Next, in the settings menu go to Facetime and turn that off
  • Now hard restart your device
  • Once the device is back online go and reenable both iMessage and Facetime
