In a world where video games are constantly being made into movies, television shows, and other properties, it’s no surprise that Sony is looking to make even more of its IP into other forms of entertainment. In a Deadline exclusive, it was announced that Amazon Prime Video is currently in negotiations for a live-action God of War series.
Now, nothing is confirmed so keep this in mind. But here’s a quote from the Deadline article, reported by Nellie Andreeva
“I hear the series adaptation comes from The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins as well as Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions, which collaborate on all TV series based on PlayStation games. Reps for Sony and Amazon Studios, which likely will co-produce, had no comment.”
If this is true, it really isn’t much of a shock. Sony has always wanted big blockbuster properties that can transcend video games. Most recently, the Uncharted movie which hit theaters starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Sony also has the production of THe Last of Us HBO MAx television show in the works.
God of War saw a huge increase in popularity in 2018 when it was rebooted for the PlayStation 4 and then brought to Steam just this year. With God of War: Ragnorok slated to release this year, it all seems likely that a television show isn’t far behind.
