Square Enix Preparing For FFXIV Endwalker Congestion Ahead Of Time

They’re getting ahead of the problem before it becomes a problem.

In a new statement from Square Enix, the subject of server congestion is discussed in regards to the upcoming release of the Endwalker expansion for Final Fantasy XIV.

With so much excitement surrounding Endwalker, it’s not exactly a surprise to hear that servers may (probably will) become congested at launch, resulting in long queue times and other issues.

In the weeks following the launch of Endwalker, things will undoubtedly smooth out, but despite this Square Enix is making sure they get ahead of the problem by explaining why congestion may happen and what players can expect should congestion become an issue.

Square Enix Preparing For FFXIV Endwalker Congestion Ahead Of Time

Square Enix is being proactive when it comes to the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker by sharing a statement about potential server congestion, why it may happen, what Square Enix is doing, and what players can do on their end.

The statement from Square Enix begins by addressing why players may experience server congestion following the release of the Endwalker expansion.

“Since the launch of a new expansion is when a large number of players will be playing for extended periods of time, we are expecting far more simultaneous logins compared to usual.

Furthermore, following a dramatic increase in the player base in all regions since this summer, we are currently experiencing record numbers of active users, and therefore are expecting a number of logins that is yet to be seen since the launch of FFXIV.”

They then go on to explain the actions they’re taking in order to mitigate any congestion that players may experience, and future plans including the possible addition of new Worlds.

“In preparation for these predictions, we optimized our servers ahead of the expansion’s launch in order to increase login caps.

On the other hand, due to the ongoing global shortage of semiconductors we have previously mentioned, we were unable to add new Worlds before the release of Endwalker.

The addition of new Worlds will still be considered as we procure the necessary server machines.”

Square Enix also notes they’ve “implemented every other measure that was possible” such as replacing matching servers with higher-performance machines, optimizing processes, increasing processing speeds, and raising the number of simultaneous logins.

In addition to being transparent and sharing this helpful information, Square Enix also takes a moment to apologize to players for the “high likelihood” that Worlds will reach maximum capacity, resulting in long wait times when logging in.

“There is a high likelihood of congestion that will result in Worlds reaching maximum login capacity and lengthy wait times when logging in. We would like to apologize for making this sort of announcement at a time when many of you are looking forward to the expansion, as well as for inconveniences that may be caused by congestion.”

If you’re planning to jump into Endwalker at launch, regardless of possible congestion, Square Enix has a few tips on what you can do when you experience issues such as long wait times when logging in.

An example of this is the note that should you cancel the queue, you’ll be moved to the back of the queue when attempting to log in again. Obviously this is something players will want to avoid.

Another thing to keep in mind is character creation, with Square Enix explaining how new characters can’t be created on a World that’s experiencing congestion. Square Enix goes on to suggest players create new characters outside of peak congestion times.

Regardless of any server congestion that may happen, we’re still looking forward to the release of Endwalker. We also appreciate Square Enix taking the time to address the issue ahead of time as it’ll undoubtedly help ease the stress that players may experience trying to log in with long queue times.
