Gearbox has more Borderlands content planned, as was revealed as part of an announcement from Randy Pitchford on Gearbox’s expansion into Montréal, Canada

While this won’t be the first Gearbox studio in Canada as there’s already an active studio in Québec, the new studio will play an integral role in Gearbox’s plans for the Borderlands franchise, plus other new IPs.

“Following our successful experience establishing Gearbox Studio Québec, our investment in a new studio in Montréal creates an exciting new prospect for Montréal-based talent – whether they wish to work on existing Gearbox franchises, or help with the creation of new, original ideas,” the press release reads

Gearbox plans to hire 250 people to work at Gearbox Montréal under the joint leadership of industry veterans Sébastien Caisse, PhD and Pierre-André Déry.

“With Sébastien and Pierre-André’s leadership, I know the incredible local game development community will welcome Gearbox Studio Montréal and its balance between major studio muscle and local team culture as a needed addition to the city,” Randy Pitchford explained.

Adding to this, Pierre-André Déry said:

“Building on Gearbox’s long history of creative freedom, we are excited to assemble a new development team to work on the Borderlands franchise and create new IP in Montréal.”

All in all, a new Gearbox studio in Montréal, Canada is exciting news as it means we’ll see a lot more from Gearbox. Not only in terms of new Borderlands games, but other new IPs as well.
