Announced today during Gamescom 2021, Horizon Forbidden West will officially release on February 18, 2022. The updated release date is fitting, especially given the fact that the game’s predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, released in February as well.
On social media, developer Guerrilla Games announced that pre-orders for Horizon Forbidden West will begin next week on Thursday, September 2. If you’re thinking about pre-ordering the game but don’t own a PlayStation 5, rest assured that Horizon Forbidden West will also be released on PlayStation 4 as well.
And if you do own a PlayStation 5 and you’re considering either revisiting the first game or playing Horizon Zero Dawn for the first time to prepare for Horizon Forbidden West, the game is getting a next-gen update.
That’s right, in addition to the release date announcement for Horizon Forbidden West, Guerrilla had a second surprise in the form of an update for Horizon Zero Dawn on PS5!
Surprise announcement we know you’ve been waiting for: the Enhanced Performance Patch for Horizon Zero Dawn on PlayStation 5 is live now!

While fans are undoubtedly disappointed they won’t be able to play Horizon Forbidden West this year, the wait for the sequel’s updated February 18 release isn’t too long. And while you wait for the release of Horizon Forbidden West, you can enjoy the visual splendor of Horizon Zero Dawn in 4K at 60 FPS.
