Red Candle Games have experienced a number of challenges when it came to releasing their game Devotion.
Previously, the game was pulled from Steam after its February 2019 release and was later rejected by GOG after an agreement was made to sell the game on the site back in December of 2020.
With nowhere else to go and a wealth of gamers sharing their support and intent to buy the game should it be made available, Red Candle Games has put together a solution in the form of their very own e-shop.
Red Candle Games Will Sell Devotion Off Their Own E-Shop
If you’ve been itching to purchase and play Devotion, or you’ve felt frustrated over the issues with game distribution that Red Candle Games has been experiencing, there’s a new way to support the developer.
Earlier this morning, Red Candle Games announced the launch of their very own e-shop. On the e-shop, you can purchase games like Devotion along with other Red Candle games like Detention in DRM-free format for both PC and Mac.
The games can be purchased individually, or together in bundles. You can also purchase the OST for Detention and Devotion separately.
Currently, you’ll find the following available for purchase on the new e-shop from Red Candle Games:
-
Detention + Devotion | Complete Edition – $33.56
-
Devotion + OST Bundle – $20.68
-
Detention + OST Bundle – $17.08
-
Devotion – $16.99
-
Detention – $11.99
-
Devotion OST – $5.99
-
Detention OST – $6.99
As a whole, the e-shop is a brilliant idea because not only can gamers now purchase and play Devotion, Red Candle Games can sell games like Devotion on their own terms.
If you aren’t aware of the reason why Devotion was pulled from Steam and rejected by GOG, the answer seemingly lies in an in-game joke made about the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Xi Jinping.
In July of 2019, Red Candle Games released a statement apologizing for the “art asset incident” and noted that the incident was a “malfunction of project management, not a deliberate act.”
The statement goes on to note that a revision patch was implemented immediately after the art asset was found. You can read the full statement from Red Candle Games here and in the embedded tweet below.

With all of that backstory out of the way, we want to congratulate Red Candle Games on the launch of their new e-shop. If you’re interested, it’s well worth purchasing a copy of Devotion from the Red Candle Games e-shop as a way to support the developer.
We also recommend buying a copy of Detention as it’s one of the best indie horror games we’ve played. For a quick recap of what each game is about, here are the official descriptions for Devotion and Detention:
Devotion: “Devotion is a first-person atmospheric horror game depicting the life of a family shadowed by religious belief. Explore a 1980s Taiwan apartment complex lost in time gradually shift into a hellish nightmare. Delve into the vows each member of the family has made, and witness their devotion.”
Detention: “Detention is an atmospheric horror game set in 1960s Taiwan under martial law. Incorporated religious elements based in Taiwanese/Chinese culture and mythology, the game provided players with unique graphics and gaming experience.”
We’ll be sure to update you on Red Candle Games, Devotion, Detention, and other projects from the developer as new information is released.
