One thing that’s particularly interesting about January’s free PS Plus games is that one of the games is specified as the PS5 version, while the other two are standard PS4 versions.

Wondering which is which? Here are all of the free games available to PS Plus subscribers starting January 5, 2021!

PS Plus Games for January 2021 Revealed

On January 5, 2021, PS Plus subscribers will be able to redeem and download three free games… as long as they own a PS5. If you own a PS4, you’ll only be able to get two of the three free games.

Below, we’ve listed each of the free PS Plus titles available in January.

  • Maneater (PS5)

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4)

  • GreedFall (PS4)

While somewhat confusing, the PlayStation Blog confirms that yes, Maneater will only be available to PS Plus subscribers who own a PS5.

“PlayStation Plus starts 2021 with a bang. PlayStation Plus members will receive two PS4 titles – action adventure Shadow of the Tomb Raider and action RPG Greedfall – on Tuesday January 5,” reads the blog post.

“On the same day, PlayStation 5 owners with a PlayStation Plus membership can play a terrifying apex predator in the open world (sea?) RPG Maneater*.”

At the very bottom of the post in fine print, it’s confirmed that only PS5 owners will be able to get Maneater, although the game won’t be available in Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, for those interested in GreedFall, it won’t be available in the Middle East and will instead be replaced with Assetto Corsa. GreedFall also isn’t available in Japan or South Korea, and will be replaced with Mistover for these regions.

*PS5 console only; PlayStation Plus benefit not applicable for Maneater on PS4. Maneater is not available in Saudi Arabia. **Greedfall: Not available in the Middle East (replaced with Assetto Corsa), Japan, or South Korea (replaced with Mistover).

While it may be disheartening for gamers who don’t own a PS5 to hear they won’t be able to redeem the third free PS Plus game, Maneater, the other two PS4 games are awesome freebies in and of themselves.

For those who are unfamiliar with Maneater, it’s an RPG that lets you play as a hungry shark, eating sea creatures and people in order to get bigger and level up. On the PlayStation Blog, Maneater is described as follows:

“Experience the ultimate power fantasy as the apex predator of the seas – a terrifying shark! Maneater is a single player, open world action RPG (ShaRkPG) where you are the shark. Starting as a small shark pup you are tasked with surviving the harsh world while eating your way up the ecosystem,” the Maneater description begins.

“To do this you will explore a large and varied open world encountering diverse enemies – both human and wildlife. Find the right resources and you can grow and evolve far beyond what nature intended, allowing the player to tailor the shark to their play style. Eat. Explore. Evolve.”

We’ve played Maneater ourselves and can attest that the game is extremely fun, especially when it comes to chowing down on prey as a shark. To be able to get that experience for free on PS5 as a PS Plus subscriber is pretty cool.

As for the other two games, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and GreedFall, here are their game descriptions:

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

“Fight, explore, craft and survive amid the dense and perilous jungles of South America in Lara Croft’s biggest adventure to date as you race to save the world from a Maya apocalypse. Gather resources and master the unforgiving terrain. Outgunned and outnumbered, you need to use your surroundings to your advantage; strike from the shadows and use mud to camouflage your presence. Use advanced traversal techniques to reach long-forgotten tombs and negotiate deadly puzzles.”

GreedFall

“In this stunning action RPG, explore uncharted new lands as you set foot on a remote island seeping with magic, and filled with riches, lost secrets, and fantastic creatures. You’ll have complete freedom to shape your abilities, spells and skills and decide whether to complete objectives with combat, diplomacy, deception, or stealth. Forge this new world’s destiny, as you befriend or betray companions and entire factions.”

Again, both Shadow of the Tomb Raider and GreedFall will be available to all PS Plus subscribers on PS4. PS Plus subscribers who own a PS5 will be able to get Shadow of the Tomb Raider and GreedFall, along with the PS5 version of Maneater.

All three PS Plus games will be available from January 5 until February 1, 2021. For more information, head over to the PlayStation Blog
