UPDATE: After we published this piece, Sony confirmed Demon’s Souls is indeed a launch game via another PlayStation Blog post.
Demon’s Souls’ remake was announced back at the last big PlayStation 5 Showcase, but today we were treated to an extended gameplay demo. From the get-go, you can notice a substantial graphical improvement. With better textures, resolution, and audio. It’s clear Bluepoint has poured a lot of work in bringing the world to life.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Demon’s Souls was FromSoftware’s first take at the genre before it developed Dark Souls and then Bloodborne. In the trailer below, you’ll see some gameplay that sure looks like what you would expect from a modern Souls game.
The PlayStation Blog has some more information on what to expect from this remake.
“It was essential to us that we recreated Demon’s Souls in such a way that longtime fans are transported back to the Boletaria they love. It’s the Boletaria that has been growing and maturing in their imaginations for over a decade. A place where every room, corner, and corridor has a story to tell. Here, the original characters, encounters, and battles are brought to life in greater fidelity, making the story even richer and darker.”

Now for the fun part. It seems like some information confirming Demon’s Souls as a PlayStation 5 launch title was mistakenly posted on the PlayStation Blog, but was quickly deleted after. Geoff Keighley of The Game Awards, who also was on Twitter talking up PS5 pre-order details, is backing that up with his own launch release claim.

So if this is true and the game is truly a launch title for the PlayStation 5, that means we only have to wait for a couple more moths. You might want to take the time to replay Dark Souls and remember how to, ahem, Git Gud, before hopping into Demon’s Souls when it comes out.
The launch title stuff weirdly was not present in the PlayStation 5 Showcase but that didn’t stop Geoff Keighley from blasting it out on Twitter anyway. We’ll see how that pans out!

The world of Demon’s Souls is not for the faint of heart and should not be taken lightly. It’s filled with death and despair, so make sure to put the kids to bed before you watch the trailer.
Bluepoint Games is responsible for the 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, which remained very true to the original but brought it into the modern day. It seems that the same mantra is being carried forward with Demon’s Souls, so longtime fans of the series are in good hands.
The wait could very well be almost over for fans to get their hands on the game. There was plenty else shown off during the PlayStation 5 Showcase, so be on the lookout as more information trickles out.
