We first learned about the Netflix Dragon’s Dogma anime earlier this year but now we’ve got our first look at what the new series will look like and it looks glorious. The Dragon’s Dogma anime reveal trailer shows off our protagonist looking to exact revenge for his destroyed home and we’re already on board.

Dragon’s Dogma is an incredibly underrated RPG with an insanely satisfying story and unforgiving combat. This game was overlooked by many, but beloved by pretty much everyone that gave it a chance, so seeing it get a second lease on life by a potential broadening of its audience by way of this new anime series is beyond exciting.

The trailer above does a solid job at setting up Ethan’s story and his motivations behind his journey. “After losing his home to a dragon, Ethan sets out to hunt it down once and for all. A pawn appears by his side and serves to protect his life. But the dangers that lie in wait for Ethan are beyond their imaginations, for when you fight a monster… you just may become one too,” reads the official synopsis for the new Netflix series.

While it is a slight bummer to see a solidified protagonist versus the chance to create your own character in the games, that sort of direction is to be expected in an anime. A protagonist has to be chosen but it looks like the team did what they could to remain faithful to the 2012 adventure, despite setting the preset main character.

The game series itself is one I can’t personally recommend enough. The story was beyond incredible and challenging in a way that many might not expect. The character creation was also amazing, allowing players to truly see themselves within this world – even if I did make all of my characters look like some variation of Hawke from Dragon Age.

The Dragon’s Dogma anime is slated for a September 17th launch, are you ready? Sound off with your excitement over on Twitter @PrimaGames!
