Sony updated fans a few months ago that they didn’t foresee any issues with launching the PS5 during their originally projected window, but did want fans that those plans could easily change thanks to COVID-19. While we still don’t have a PS5 release date, we do at least have an updated assurance that the launch is still on track despite the numerous roadblocks.
The latest update came by way of the most recent investor’s call with CFO Kiroki Totoki, Senior VP of Corporate Planning Naomi Matsuoka, Senior General Manager Korotoshi Korenaga, and Corporate Communications General Manager Mami Imada. In the most recent report, Sony told investors that the PS5 was still on track for its holiday release, though any delays wouldn’t be known to the public because a set date was never revealed. Even so, a small delay of just a few weeks would be inconsequential when looking at the launch window offered, which makes the news that it is still on track good for those interested in diving all-in with the new generation.
While many studios behind the games for the PS5 are still being hit with delays, the hardware itself is still underway. According to Sony, “although factors such as constraints due to employees working from home and restrictions on international travel remain, necessary measures are being taken and preparations are underway with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season.”
With games like Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the next generation of PlayStation looks glorious, so it’s nice to see that the hard work by all of these various teams are on track. We just hope that everyone involved is taking the time they need outside of work to balance out, because the world is crazy right now and we all need to look out for one another.
