How to Find Quartzite in Grounded

A great material to seek out early on is this underground rock.

While you’re getting your feet wet in Obsidian Entertainment’s backyard survival game Grounded, an early resource you’re going to want to look out for is Quartzite. This material is what you’ll need for two key early-game tools, the dew collector and the repair tool. While it does require a little preparation, getting some Quartzite is ultimately pretty easy. Here’s what you need to do.

How to Find Quartzite in Grounded

You aren’t just running around in a suburban backyard, Honey I Shrunk the Kids-style. While you’re making your way around, you can run into caves, one of which is located pretty close to the game’s starting point, south of the Baseball. You should be able to find a laser nearby, which also happens to be part of an early quest. If you follow the device’s power cable, you’ll end up heading underground.

Ideally, you’ll want to have a torch handy before you enter a cave, but you can find Slime Mold while you’re down there to whip up a flimsy Slime Mold Torch in a pinch. You also want to bring a hammer with you, because how else are you going to collect pieces of a big rock?

There are multiple blocks of Quartzite in that specific cave, but again you can find it in multiple underground locations. The Quartzite rocks are reddish in color, almost like salt. You’ll also get a prompt to mine it if you look at it with the hammer ready, so that helps. Bonk the rock a few times and you’ll get a few pieces of Quartzite, and be able to get those key items.

Analyzing the Quartzite will show you its crafting options, and you’ll need spider silk, weed stems, sprigs, and woven fibers to make the dew collector and repair tool. But once you get that over with, you’ll have easier access to water, and be able to repair constructions without having to rebuild them once damaged.
