Xbox Series X box art has made it out into the wild with a big ‘ol ‘Optimized for Xbox Series X‘ sticker right on the front. While it’s obvious to see where Microsoft was going with this particular piece of marketing material, it seems the market as a whole really isn’t feeling the look.
The Verge’s Tom Warren recently tweeted out a few key arts for Far Cry 6, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Watch Dogs Legion; all with the Optimized for Xbox Series X attachment front and center. The reaction? Pretty much “burn it with fire” and so far we haven’t seen a positive take on this particular style of branding:
Boy that does not look great or really tell you anything

It’s so clean outside of that stupid logo. Do we know how Sony’s handling cross-gen games? Given that PS makes you re-download digital titles if you had them on disc first, I’m guessing they’ll be selling separate SKUs.

It is easy. Change the color bar for series X and put the Xbox one and one X compatible. Don’t put the series x compatible because is a nonsense. @XboxP3

It’s important to keep in mind that this is Xbox One box art with Series X branding, but it looks like Microsoft is looking to blend the two generations in both support and marketing efforts. Sony recently unveiled their take with a white overlay, but that didn’t seem to clutter it up as much as this optimization notice.
