Call of Duty: Warzone Devs Already Testing Larger Lobbies, Squad Sizes

Call of Duty: Warzone may not have been the best-kept secret in recent memory, but that hasn’t stopped it from thrusting itself into the battle royale battlefield and making a name for itself. Fans appear to be enjoying the new free-to-play battle royale title, even if there have been a couple minor hiccups along the way. Despite the growing popularity of the game, however, it seems that there is one aspect that some are not exactly a fan of: squad sizes.

Upon release, Call of Duty: Warzone was limited to three-player squads and 150-player lobbies. While players can choose to go it alone or duo with a singular squadmate, it is not ideal as the rest of the lobby could have the advantage with three-player squads. Luckily, it looks like that could be changing in the future as Infinity Ward is already playing around with various squad and lobby sizes.

During a recent interview with USA Today, Infinity Ward co-head Patrick Kelly assured fans that the developers are working on different sizes when it comes to lobbies, which currently sit at 150 players. “For one thing, we are initially going to roll out with 150 players, when you are typically seeing 60 to 100,” Kelly said. “Actually, I can tell you we are already playing with 200 players. We are going to release that a little bit later.” Kelly then went on to discuss how they are even working on various squad sizes. “I can tell you we have four- and five-player squads we are already playing with,” he said. “But we want to launch with something we know works really well and we have tested to the nines and then play around with these different team sizes.”

It is unknown at this point in time when the larger squad and lobby sizes are set to arrive in-game, but it likely won’t be too long before we learn more. It will also be interesting to see if Infinity Ward plans to add dedicated solo and duos lobbies, but only time will tell.

Call of Duty: Warzone is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
