Respawn Co-Founder Announces Departure From Studio

The Respawn Lead Producer and Co-Founder is moving onto new adventures.

Respawn Entertainment is on a high streak now with successes, especially when reflecting on the last year with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the hit battle royale game: Apex Legends. While the studio is doing well, one key member is moving onto new adventures because Respawn co-founder Drew McCoy has just announced that he’s leaving the company.

McCoy took to Twitter to reveal the big news and change of plans, though he didn’t reveal exactly what’s next. For those that are unaware, McCoy helped found Respawn Entertainment back in 2010 and he used his expertise that he’s built through the years with Activision prior to put his shooting knowledge towards Apex and the Titanfall franchise.

“Today marks the start of a new adventure for me,” said McCoy in his most recent Twitter post. “I will absolutely cherish the last 10 years I spent helping start Respawn and ship some awesome games alongside amazing people. I’ll miss the people the most – the daily arguments, successes, failures, and everything inbetween.

He added, “For everyone who played our games, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Not sure where I’m going yet, but rest assured I can’t stay away from games for long!”

With the recent news that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is in the works, though through a different division of Respawn, and way more surprises in store for Apex Legends, it’s an interesting thing to see him choose this moment to leave. After 10 years with Respawn, both through the good times and the bad, it’s always bittersweet when core members leave to try new things. That being said, we wish McCoy nothing but the absolute best in his future ventures! We can’t wait to see what he does next.
