Earlier this past week, an outbreak of a mysterious coronavirus has been seen affecting Wuhan, China. The effects have been seen outside of China for those traveling and now that this contagion has resulted in up to 81 deaths and more than 2,800 cases, a state of medical emergency has been declared in the region and that decision with wellness in mind has extended out to a few gaming events in the area, including the League of Legends Pro Week.
The League of Legends League (LPL) jumped all into 2020 with their first week of competitive play, though after the reports of the coronavirus the week 2 events have been delayed due to “health and safety” concerns. Given the location of the tournament and with the number of those affected and countries affected climbing, it makes sense then that the well-being of the players, crew, and fans would be considered when looking at how to proceed during this admittedly scary time.
We have decided to postpone week 2 of the LPL until we can ensure the safety and health of our players and fans.
To our fans, we sincerely apologize that it has come to this and we will share any and all info as soon as we can.
Stay Safe and thank you all for your support!

For those looking forward to week 2, the delay is temporary. That being said, we don’t have a date yet as to when the LPL will resume the competitive event. Whether this means the LPL will cut down the program to make up for the lost time remains to be seen, though a few “makeup matches” wouldn’t be unheard of either.
While this news may be disappointing for some, the health and safety of those involved are crucial and we’re glad to see the LPL taking this new threat seriously rather than pressing on despite the clear potential danger involved.
