Death Stranding was the breakout title for Hideo Kojima’s new studio, Kojima Productions, but it definitely won’t be the last. After being met by overwhelming praise, Death Stranding is just the start. Kojima-san has teased in the past that he wants his studio to also dive into movies, but that doesn’t mean games are on the backburner. In fact, the game creator just teased that he’s got several major projects in the works.
Kojima-san’s most recent interview came courtesy of the February 6th issue of Famitsu magazine (courtesy of DualShockers) and gave us a sneak peek at the road ahead. Kojima-san was joined by long-time friend and collegue Yoji Shinkawa as they not only reflected back on the development progress of Death Stranding but also what they wanted to focus on next.
One of the projects the pair mentioned they wanted to tackle is doing some sort of manga together, especially with Shinkawa’s love for being able to “touch things directly.” The desire to do movies also came up, especially one with Shinkawa’s designs.
But what about games? The games, man, the games?! There will be games, a few in fact, that they are looking at for the future. One of the video game ambitions is a really “big” game while a few smaller ones will also be a focus on the side. He also mentioned that he’s intrigued by episodic games, which would likely be one of the “smaller” projects he mentioned.
As for his immediate release schedule, his breakout open-world game Death Stranding is available now on PlayStation 4, with a PC launch slated for Summer 2020. For more about the game itself:
“Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.”
