While everyone’s all up in arms about how we’ve moved into yet another decade with anime, there’s clearly a big market for nostalgic hits. Hell, Tokyo Mew Mew is getting a relaunch this year – talk about a blast from the past. We’re also happy to announce that 90s anime Sorcerous Stabber Orphen gets a 2020 reboot to kick things off in this new period. Who said that 90s kids can’t have nice things?
90s Anime Sorcerous Stabber Orphen Gets a 2020 Reboot
Those unfamiliar with the source material of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen might like to know that it’s a series of light novels that have spawned two previous anime adaptations and a video game one before this latest announcement. They were arguably a little difficult to get into at the time, especially when competing against other powerhouse 90s classics like Inuyasha, but it looks like the series will now get a second chance.
Based on the trailer above, it looks like the heady mix of fantasy and adventure that has played incredibly well in recent years on the shounen anime circuit, so we’re pretty excited to see how it does with its new coat of paint. The story follows Orphen, a boy who was once a sorcerer who gets wrapped up in a criminal scheme that spirals out of control. Add a sister who’s been turned into a dragon into the mix, a bunch of secrets about the nature of the universe and magic, and you’ve got a formula that could kill it. The 90s anime Sorcerous Stabber Orphen 2020 reboot has been licensed by Funimation, and it’ll be nice to see how well it pans out with a modern audience that’s since developed a taste for magical fantasy.
