The PlayStation Vue is now dead, which backs the direction that Sony is going in when becoming even more gaming-focused. The company took to the official PlayStation Blog to reveal the latest news and the decision behind it.
“Over four years ago, we made a bold decision to change the rules and revolutionize the traditional TV-viewing experience in the U.S. with PlayStation Vue,” began the latest blog post detailing the decision to halt the Vue. “We set the bar high and sought to innovate an established industry by delivering a modern TV experience. By completely rethinking live and on demand television, we offered an incredible user experience that allowed viewers to discover and watch content in completely new ways.”
The official end-date for the PlayStation Vue service will be on January 30, 2020. The team cited a highly competitive Pay TV industry for the reason behind halted support. That move is definitely a smart move, especially with companies like Disney throwing in their entertainment punches in the streaming gauntlet alongside other branded services like Hulu and Netflix.
The team added, “PlayStation fans can continue to access movie and TV content through the PlayStation Store on PS4 and via our partnerships with top entertainment apps. With 100 million PlayStation 4s in the market today, our community continues to grow and thrive. We will continue to deliver the best entertainment experiences across the network, along with other key gaming services, including PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus.”
The PlayStation Vue was a solid idea, something that PlayStation users could use across numerous platforms. It was an ambitious goal to lead also not in gaming, but in television streaming, but it looks like Sony is gearing up to honor their promise and bringing the PlayStation brand back to being a gaming-focused staple.
