Earlier this week we wrote up a speculation piece after EA tweeted out a GIF of an EA coffee mug with steam coming out of it. We talked about how we thought this was a teaser as to EA’s return to Steam and it looks like we finally have confirmation that we’re not crazy, EA really is back in bed with Valve! That’s right, EA Access and EA games are officially coming back to Steam.
EA wasn’t always separated from Steam with Origins but the split became official with Battlefield 3. Now it looks like the breakup is over with EA Access coming to Steam in Spring and the partnership itself kicking off with the launch of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order!
According to a recent press release from EA, “The partnership kicks off with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launching on November 15—and available for pre-order today. In the coming months, players on Steam will also be able to play other major titles like The Sims 4 and Unravel Two. Multiplayer games—like Apex Legends, FIFA 20, and Battlefield V—will become available next year, and players on both Origin and Steam will have the ability to play together.
“A library of titles awaits you in The Vault, but beyond the games themselves, EA Access enhances your gaming experience with a medley of rewards. Get the red-carpet treatment with exclusive catalog-wide discounts, and in-game member benefits for some of our biggest franchises.”
The team promised that even more info on this partnership will be revealed through the coming months, but let’s all just take a moment to appreciate the potential Steam Workshop for The Sims! I mean, I’m not calling it paradise but if the shoe fits …
