Battle Royale games are everywhere, whether we want them to be or not, and usually when a game states that it will have online the gaming community automatically assumes that means the popular PvP mode. In the case of Death Stranding, creator Hideo Kojima recently spoke during SDCC 2019 to talk about his title and to reiterate that it would be unlike anything anyone has ever played. When the topic of Battle Royale came up, he had a firm stance against it calling it an “easy” addition that he himself has no interest in.
During Kojima-san’s panel during the San Diego celebration, The Hollywood Reporter’s Patrick Shanley mentioned that the creator had some less than flattering things to say about the online mode that took the gaming world by storm. He mentioned that battle royale doesn’t fit with his scope and that it’s “the easiest way to make money is to make a game where everyone is on an island trying to shoot each other.”
Given that he’s gone above and beyond to make sure Death Stranding is unlike anything else out there, including how the game is marketing, it’s not that hard to picture his distaste for this particular mode within his own vision. Though good news for those that seem sick of this trend, it seems to be on a steep downhill regarding games like Fortnite and Apex Legends.
As for the game itself, Death Stranding finally has its release date. The PlayStation 4 exclusive officially arrives on November 8th!
