Code Vein is an upcoming action game that is basically what would happen if you took Dark Souls and just covered it in anime. It is set in a world of Revenants (vampires) and curses and has you fighting your way through monstrous enemies alongside the few remaining good Revenants in order to try and survive and break the curse. Not only has the world been more or less destroyed, but those who remain within it are constantly struggling for survival too. It’s classic stuff in terms of story, but the combat and the anime visuals make it stand out from the crowd. As this weekend has some of us playing the network test, it felt like a good time to give you some Code Vein tips and tricks to help you get started.
Code Vein Tips And Tricks
Slow And Steady
Code Vein is a bit slower than some of the more recent Soulslike games. It has a more punishing stamina bar and more enemies hidden around corners, so you’re going to want to take it slow. You can run around all you want once you know where enemies are hiding, but take things slowly at first or you’ll be punished.
Use The Help
The AI companion in Code Vein is actually pretty decent. While some of the fights at the end of the demo involve two big bosses coming at you at the same time, the initial dungeon doesn’t. It is well worth letting you AI take the heat for a bit when you need to rest, they can handle themselves and will even heal when they need to. Given the overwhelming strength of the first boss you fight, you should definitely take advantage of having the extra help by taking it in turns to attack the beast.
Make The Most Of Your Skills
Your abilities in Code Vein are often the difference between life and death. You’ll be playing with the Fighter Blood Code as default which has access to a brutal three-hit combo as one of the special abilities but only with certain heavy weapons. Make sure you can actually use the skills you have equipped as they can really help in a pinch. After the prologue dungeon, you’ll have access to a few more blood codes too, some of these skills are incredibly powerful so just remember to use them.
Level Up
There are a few different things for you to spend your Haze (experience points) on in Code Vein, both equipment, skills, and level ups all consume Haze. The first thing you should do with it is level up though, it increases your maximum health and will, in turn, keep you alive much longer. This is especially true once you’ve reached the main hub as the dungeon you can visit is a higher level than you are. The only way to balance that discrepancy is by levelling up, so make sure you do so.
Experiment
There are countless combinations of weapons, Blood Codes, and skills in this Network Test, and none of them is strictly better than any of the others. Once you have a feel for the basic combat in the game have a play around with all of the different things you can equip. You can mix and match skills between Blood Codes if you master them so it pays to have a go with everything before settling into one style of play. Just have fun with it.
That’s it for Code Vein tips and tricks for the moment. You should give Prima Games a follow on Twitter in order to keep up with everything else we are doing though.
