Video game developers from all over the world descend upon San Francisco, California once per year to attend the Game Developers Conference. This year’s event is no different, and attendees can expect plenty of cool-looking titles to cover, many of which will be provided by Brazil Games, a coalition of companies with one mission: to put Brazilian video game developers on the digital map!

Brazil Games – comprised of the Brazilian Game Companies Association, ABRAGAMES, and Apex-Brasil – will bring 13 game companies to meet with members of the games media and publishers in order to gain exposure and put the spotlight on the emerging Brazilian games business. Brazil has become a hotbed for game development, with several video games earning awards ahead of GDC 2019. Among them, Relic Hunters Legend (from Rogue Snail) and DeMagnete VR (from BitCake Studio), which are two of GDC’s Best in Play finalists; Areia, from GILP Studio, achieved an honorable mention in this category. Additionally, Oktagon Games’ Trial of Titans and Flux Games’ Talaka, will appear in GDC Pitch, where these developers have a shot at attracting potential investors and publishers.

Brazil also found success on mobile, with the following six games up for awards: Dandara (Long Hat House), Lila’s Tale (Skullfish Studios), Looney Tunes World Of Mayhem (Aquiris Game Studio), Tetragon (Cafundo creative studio), Hoppia Tale (Ludic Side Game Studio), and Until Dead (Monomyto Game Studio). Personally we have an eye on the puzzle game, Tetragon, which we played at last year’s BIG Festival, Brazil’s annual indie game event in the city of Sao Paolo.

On top of that, Crystal League (from Flipstar Studios) is nominated for Best Social Game, while Cofeenaughts’ Spaceline Crew is up for not only Best Casual Game, but also for Most Promising IP. We’ll see how both titles fare during the Game Connection America Awards.

“The recognition our studios and developers are receiving is absolutely indicative of the investment we put in our products, our country, and each other. We are extremely happy to be able to share the success of our companies with the world and create strong, lasting relationships with the international gaming community”, said Eliana Russi, Brazil Games executive director.

There will also be opportunities for GDC attendees to go hands-on with several games, including Relic Hunters Legend (by Rogue Snail), DeMagneteVR (by BitCake), Areia (by GILP Studio), Trial of Titans (by Oktagon Games), Talaka (by Flux Game Studio), Dandy Ace (by Mad Mimic Interactive), Dolmen (by Massive Work Studio), and Revolution (by Black River Studios). Similar to Tetragon, we checked out Dolmen at last year’s BIG and think this sci-fi themed alien smasher has potential to become a special game.

If you’re going to GDC 2019, you’ll find Brazil Games in the south hall of the Moscone Center at booth N3326 from March 20-22. You can also check them out at Game Connection America from March 18-22.
